The film tells the life and death of the poet Arthur Rimbaud and his troubled relationship with the poet Paul Verlaine until the African adventure in Ethiopia.
Synopsis
Arthur Rimbaud, gravement malade et aux derniers jours de sa vie, revoit les faits marquants de son existence. Son enfance dans les Ardennes, puis Paris où il devient la tête de proue des poètes symbolistes, sa rencontre avec Paul Verlaine avec lequel il entretient une relation amoureuse. Après avoir vagabondé ensemble, entre France, Angleterre et Belgique, la blessure infligée à Arthur par le coup de revolver de Verlaine met fin à leur relation et amène Arthur à renoncer à la poésie, doutant qu'elle puisse avoir un effet sur le monde comme il l'avait espéré. Ayant traîné ses semelles aux quatre vents durant une demi-décennie, il va ensuite arpenter pendant dix ans les déserts africains entre Arabie et Abyssinie, devenant agent commercial d'une importante compagnie française. Il se livre notamment au trafic d'armes avec le ras Ménélik et entretient une liaison amoureuse avec Gennet, une Éthiopienne qui restera à ses côtés jusqu'à ce que, atteint d'une tumeur maligne au genou droit, il doive quitter l'Afrique pour aller se faire soigner en France. C'est durant ses derniers mois qu'Arthur exprimera des sentiments insoupçonnés : son amour pour la vie et ses inclinaisons pour le surnaturel.Actors

Mery per sempre is set in Malaspina, a juvenile detention centre in Palermo, Sicily, during the 1980s. The protagonist, Marco Terzi (Michele Placido), is a teacher who has transferred to Palermo from Milan. He obtains a position as teacher inside the institution, and has great difficulty in establishing a rapport with the young, hostile students; in particular, Natale Sperandeo (Francesco Benigno), the leader of the group, who is inside for murder, and Pietro Giancone (Claudio Amendola). Terzi's situation is further complicated when Mario Libassi (Alessandro Di Sanzo), a transvestite prostitute, nicknamed Mery, falls in love with him. With the passing of time, however, Terzi slowly gains the respect and admiration of his students, even from the most hardened of the young men.

Issue de milieu modeste, la jeune Emma Eckhert commence sa carrière comme employée dans la chapellerie familiale. Son mariage avec Moïse Nathanson, un ami de la famille plus âgé qu'elle, ne l'empêche ainsi pas de poursuivre sa liaison avec Camille Sowcroft, la fille d'un bijoutier, qui l'aide à s'enrichir en lui avançant de l'argent qu'Emma fait rapidement fructifier par d'astucieuses opérations boursières. En 1929, Emma est devenue l'une des banquières les plus appréciées de Paris. Mais sa fulgurante réussite lui attire entre autres l'antipathie du puissant banquier Horace Vannister, qui est une réplique du banquier Horace Finaly ; celui-ci intervient auprès du Président du Conseil Préfailles, qui est une réplique de Raymond Poincaré, pour faire interdire les activités d'Emma Eckhert, qui est une réplique de Marthe Hanau et la poursuivre en justice. Celle-ci finit par être assassinée au cours d'un meeting où elle expliquait aux épargnants qui lui avaient fait confiance, comment elle allait les rembourser.

A mysterious figure known only as "The Visitor" appears in the lives of a typical bourgeois Italian family. His arrival is heralded at the gates of the family's Milanese estate by an arm-flapping postman. The enigmatic stranger soon engages in sexual affairs with all members of the household: the devoutly religious maid, the sensitive son, the sexually repressed mother, the timid daughter and, finally, the tormented father. Anthony "Tick" Belrose (Hugo Weaving), using the drag pseudonym of Mitzi Del Bra, is a Sydney-based drag queen who accepts an offer to perform his drag act at Lasseter's Hotel Casino Resort managed by a female friend named Marion in Alice Springs, a remote town in central Australia. After persuading his friends and fellow performers, Bernadette Bassinger (Terence Stamp), a recently bereaved transsexual woman, and Adam Whitely (Guy Pearce), a flamboyant and obnoxious younger drag queen who goes under the drag name Felicia Jollygoodfellow, to join him, the three set out in a large tour bus, which Adam christens "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" for a four-week run in the Australian Outback town.

The film takes place in 1920, in the Midlands mining town of Beldover.
