A Woman in Berlin (German: Anonyma - Eine Frau in Berlin), known as The Downfall of Berlin Anonyma in the UK, is a 2008 German film directed by Max Färberböck, starring Nina Hoss and Eugeny Sidikhin. It is based on the memoir, Eine Frau in Berlin, published anonymously in 1959 in German, with a new edition in 2003. (It was also published in English in 1954 and 2005, and in seven other languages.)
The film premiered at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival and was praised for its portrayal of a morally complex and brutal period.
Synopsis
In the waning days of World War II, an assortment of women, children and elderly men struggle to survive in Berlin, cast out of their formerly middle-class lives.Actors

In 1941 Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union and their troops besieged the city of Leningrad. Foreign journalists are evacuated but one of them, Kate Davis (Mira Sorvino), is presumed dead and misses the plane. Justo est un républicain anarchiste espagnol marié à Manuela. À cause de l'avancée des franquistes sur Madrid, il est contraint de partir vers Barcelone. Il fait ensuite partie des 400 000 républicains qui se réfugient en France. Manuela est restée à Madrid et ignore ce qu'est devenu son mari Justo. East Germany in 1980: Barbara (Nina Hoss) is a chain-smoking physician whom we meet as she is arriving for her first day at a small rural hospital near the Baltic Sea. She had been at the prestigious Charité hospital in East Berlin but, after she'd filed an "Ausreiseantrag" – an official request to leave East Germany – she had been incarcerated and then transferred to this small town where she is still monitored by the Stasi. Twice in the film, we see the Stasi punish Barbara for the hours in which they cannot find her, by searching her house, strip-searching and cavity-searching her.

The film takes place in late 1999. India has an out-of-control nuclear satellite in orbit that is about to re-enter the atmosphere at any time, contaminating large areas of the Earth. This has caused a massive panic, with everyone trying to flee the likely impact sites. Caught in a traffic jam, impatient and disconnected Claire Tourneur (Solveig Dommartin) escapes the highway congestion by taking a side road. Her dashboard computer system announces she has left the map zone database and is on her own. She then has a couple of odd encounters, first with a pair of bank robbers (which leaves her with a large amount of cash), then with a hitchhiker being pursued by an armed party. Claire discovers, after falling in love with the enigmatic fugitive, that he is the son of a scientist (played by Max von Sydow), and has absconded with the prototype of a secret research project. Multiple government agencies and freelance bounty hunters are chasing him to recover the device.
