Synopsis
Leif (Nicholas Campbell), a travel writer whose career has declined, visits his son Jake (Mark Rendall). The father plans to produce a book about Algonquin Park and invites his son to join him in its writing. Leif also meets up with Rita (Sheila McCarthy), his former wife and Jake's mother. Matters are complicated when they are joined by Carmen (Victoria Sanchez), Leif's young romantic partner, and her son Iggy (Michael Levinson). Leif and Jake then proceed with a canoe trip through Algonquin Park to find a particular horseshoe.Actors

When the Maximum Cage Warriors(MCW) league, the preeminent full contact fighting promoters, announce a competition to select the best undiscovered fighter, Ringo’s friends urge him to join. Ringo, once again, claims he is not ready. Even KARA, Ringo’s love interest, pushes him to join, but Ringo resists. Seeing his skill and desire to become a professional his mate Link surprises him with a last minute online registration to the MCW: Undiscovered tournament. Four fighters will be selected. Thousands submit and the chances of making the cut are slim. One day, at Ringo’s local training gym, where his greatest rival also trains, it is announced on the news on television that Ringo Duran will be one of the four fighters, but so will his rival, Alonso Scott. Ringo is reluctant at first, but his coach, friend and love interest convince him to compete and he heads straight into training to prepare for the tournament.

The disgraced former executioner, or Kogi Kaishakunin to the shogun, Ogami Ittō is now living rough on the land with his three-year-old son Daigoro, travelling the countryside as a hired killer. Pushing his son in a baby cart, he stops at a bathhouse looking for a room and a bath, and is eagerly welcomed in by a young woman. However, the manager of the house sees Ittō as a dirty vagabond and scolds the young woman for letting him in the house. Overhearing this, Ittō goes to the baby cart and retrieves a bundle and hands it to the manager for safe keeping – it is 500 gold pieces, earned from a recent job. The manager's tone quickly changes, but when he tries to wash Daigoro's feet, the boy kicks water at the old man and tromps across the floor, leaving wet footprints.

Ogami Ittō, the disgraced former shogun's executioner, or Kogi Kaishakunin, is traveling by river on a boat with his young son Daigoro floating behind in the baby cart. A young woman at the front of the boat, clearly distraught for some reason, accidentally drops a bundle into the water, which Daigoro retrieves. Ittō, draws his sword partway and notices in the reflection on the blade that some bamboo reeds are trailing the boat. Ittō is being followed by operatives of his mortal enemy, the Yagyū Clan – a constant threat that he can never ignore. Later, as Daigorou is relieving himself in a bamboo glade, Ittō slices some bamboo stalks, causing some ninja to fall from their perch.

Boxer from Shantung follows Ma Yongzhen and Xiao Jiangbei. Ma and Xiao are manual laborers busting their tails in Shanghai at the beginning of the film, and Ma's first encounter with the crime lord Tan Si starts him off on the underworld influence ladder. Step by step, he earns the respect of everyone he meets, either with his strength of character or by beating them up. When he gets a really big break by defeating a Russian strongman, he indulges himself in a fancy cigarette holder, much like the one Tan Si uses. However, he is mindful of his humble beginnings, and of the fact that times are still tough for many in Shanghai. He shares his good fortune with his old fellow wage slaves, and when they assist him in his various extralegal activities, he lectures them on the futility of trying to extort money from people who simply don't have any to spare.
