Synopsis
Choqués par le message des fondateurs leur dévoilant le véritable objectif du système des factions, Tris, « Quatre » et leurs compagnons décident de franchir le Mur encerclant Chicago pour découvrir le monde qui les entoure et ses survivants. Mais au-delà de la Clôture, ils découvrent un univers hostile avant d'être accueillis par un nouveau peuple complaisant et protecteur. À peine ont-ils compris avoir fait partie d'une expérience qui visait à restructurer la société qu'ils sont à nouveau confrontés à un défi de plus grande envergure. Alors que les dirigeants de ce nouveau monde ont en effet décidé de sélectionner les individus selon la pureté de leur code génétique, une terrible bataille se prépare à Chicago entre les anciens résistants.Actors

The story begins five days after the assault on the Abnegation faction by Erudite leader Jeanine's mind-controlled Dauntless soldiers. Dauntless leader Eric and his platoon search through the wreckage of Abnegation for a box of unknown origin that contains the symbols for each faction. They recover the box and take it to Erudite. Jeanine claims it contains data from the city's founders and the means to end the Divergence problem–the issue of individuals having the qualities of multiple factions. Only a Divergent can open the box, so she orders all Divergents hunted down and captured.

Following a nuclear holocaust, the world has become a desert wasteland and civilization has collapsed. Max Rockatansky, a survivor, is captured by the War Boys, the army of the tyrannical Immortan Joe, and taken to Joe's Citadel. In 2014, an attempt to counteract global warming through climate engineering results in an ice age that extinguishes all life except the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive train powered by a perpetual motion engine that travels a globe-spanning track, created by the transportation magnate Wilford. In 2022, a comet strikes Earth causing an 11-year drought. By 2033, most of the little remaining water is held in reserve by Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell) and his Water & Power (W&P) corporation, which uses the water to control the population. Rebecca Buck – "Tank Girl" (Lori Petty) – is a member of a commune in the Australian outback that operates the last water well not controlled by the corporation. In an attack on the commune, W&P troops kill Tank Girl's boyfriend, Richard (Brian Wimmer), and capture Tank Girl and her young friend Sam (Stacy Linn Ramsower). Rather than killing her, Kesslee tortures and enslaves the defiant Tank Girl. Jet Girl (Naomi Watts), a talented but introverted jet mechanic who has given up trying to escape W&P, urges Tank Girl to make less trouble for their captors, though Tank Girl refuses. Among other forms of torture, W&P personnel push her down into a long pipe and fill it with water.

Shortly after the dawn of the new millennium, during construction on the London Underground, workers penetrate an underground cave. A huge dragon emerges from hibernation, incinerating the workers with its flaming breath. The only survivor is a boy, Quinn Abercromby (Ben Thornton), whose mother Karen (Alice Krige) is the construction crew chief; Karen is crushed to death while protecting Quinn as the dragon climbs to the surface. It flies out of the Underground and more dragons appear, multiplying rapidly. Shown in newspaper clippings and a voiceover, scientists discover that dragons are a lost species responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs by incinerating them and eating their ash, as well as ice ages. The dragons are speculated to hibernate after destroying most of the Earth's creatures until the planet repopulates. After the dragons' awakening humanity resists militarily, including a 2010 use of nuclear weapons; this, however, hastens the destruction and within a few years humans are nearly extinct.
