Add to a movie listDon Quixote is a 2000 television film adaptation of the classic novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, made by Hallmark Entertainment and distributed by TNT. A dubbed-into-Spanish version was distributed by Divisa Home Video (Spain) (DVD). The film was shown in three parts in Europe, but in one installment in the U.S. Although the film was made in English, and although it was released on VHS shortly after it was telecast in the U.S., the only DVD ever made of the film is the Divisa Home Video one. A DVD is also available with English or Russian-dubbed voices and subtitles in Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian. Of all the Hallmark adaptations of classic novels which premiered on Turner Network Television, Don Quixote is the only one still unavailable on a U.S. or British DVD.
The film was directed by Peter Yates and the teleplay adapted by John Mortimer from the Cervantes novel, produced by Dyson Lovell and Robert Halmi Sr. and John Lithgow as executive producers. The original music was by Richard Hartley and the cinematography by David Connell. The film completed a decades-old goal of Yates — his original intent to cast Richard Burton in the lead role.
The film stars John Lithgow as Don Quixote de La Mancha (whose real name is Alonso Quijano), and Bob Hoskins as Sancho Panza with Isabella Rossellini, Vanessa L. Williams, Lambert Wilson, Tony Haygarth, Peter Eyre, Lilo Baur, James Purefoy and Trevor Peacock.

George, a former mental patient and pathological liar, is released from the hospital, and he is quickly, purposefully mistaken for millionaire brewery heir Abe Fielding by a troop of actors hired by the dubious and unscrupulous business manager Rupert. George Henderson (John Lithgow) is returning home with his family from a camping trip when they hit something with the family station wagon. George investigates, and discovers to his horror and awe, that they had hit a Sasquatch. Deciding to take the creature home, George does so, strapping it to the roof of the car. Meanwhile, a mysterious hunter has been tracking the creature and discovers the Hendersons' license plate, which fell off when they hit the creature. At home, curiosity gets the best of George, and he goes out to the garage to examine the creature. Much to his shock, the creature was not dead and has since disappeared. He hears noises from his kitchen and sees the creature, it has knocked over the fridge in its attempt to find food. After waking the whole house, the family realizes that the creature is friendly and kind. George has a change of heart, at first he wished to make money from the creature, but now decides to take him back to the wild. Naming the creature "Harry", George tries to lure him into the station wagon, but Harry believes that the Hendersons mean him harm and instead he disappears.

Frustrated that her boyfriend of four years, Jeremy, still has not proposed to her, Anna Brady, from Boston, travels to Dublin, Ireland to propose to him on February 29, leap day, while he is there at an international cardiologists' conference. According to Irish tradition, a man who is proposed to on leap day must accept the proposal. During the flight, a storm diverts the plane to Cardiff in Wales. Anna hires a boat to take her to Cork, but the severity of the storm forces her to be put ashore on the Dingle Peninsula. She enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper, Declan O'Callaghan, to taxi her across the country to Dublin to pull off the proposal in time. Meanwhile, her clumsiness in her room at the inn accidentally causes a power failure to the local village but also opens up the plot of Declans backstory and introduces the idea of a lost love from the picture that Anna finds in the armor, causing distress from Declan and making it become more intriquing. This causes Anna to later bring up his past relationships as insult.

Mario and Luigi are two Italian American plumbers living in Brooklyn, New York, who are currently being driven out of business by the mafia-like Scapelli Construction Company led by Anthony Scapelli. Later, Luigi falls in love with an orphaned NYU student named Daisy, who is digging under the Brooklyn Bridge for dinosaur bones. After a date, Daisy takes Luigi back to the bridge only to witness one of Scapelli's men sabotaging it by leaving the water pipes open. Unable to fix the flooding, Luigi and Daisy rush back to his apartment where they inform Mario about the incident. The trio returns to the flooding where the Mario Bros. manage to fix it but are knocked unconscious by Iggy and Spike, who proceed to capture Daisy.
