Synopsis
Phil Blackwood (Selleck) is an American mystery novelist who comes across a dazzling Romanian murder suspect named Nina (Porizkova) when she is arraigned in the courtroom he is visiting. Instantly falling for her, Blackwood poses as a Roman Catholic priest in order to meet her while Nina is held pending her continued arraignment. With the help of his publisher and friend, Sam (Daniels), Blackwood invents an alibi for Nina to secure her release.Actors

Six months after the events in Romancing the Stone, Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) is having trouble writing her next romantic novel while living with Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) on his boat, the Angelina, which is moored in a South of France port, and she refuses to discuss marriage. Later that afternoon at a book signing engagement held by her publisher, Gloria (Holland Taylor), Joan meets a charming Arab ruler named Omar (Spiros Focás) who has managed to persuade the world that he is the firm, but fair, ruler of Kadir. Omar offers Joan the opportunity to live like a queen at his palace, while she writes a puff piece about him. However, as soon as Joan leaves with Omar, Jack runs into Ralph (Danny DeVito). Ralph, a comical swindler from Jack's past, recently out of prison, plans on killing Jack for abandoning him to the authorities in Colombia, but is stopped by an Arab named Tarak (Paul David Magid), who tells Jack of Omar's true intentions. This includes the fact that he has their greatest treasure, the Jewel of the Nile, in his possession. Ralph, immediately interested at the prospect, agrees to help find the Jewel. Jack, however, is less than convinced. But seconds later, the Angelina explodes, having been sabotaged under Omar's orders. He then agrees to team up with Ralph and Tarak in order to track down the lost jewel in Omar's kingdom.

Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher (Chevy Chase), a reporter for the L.A. Times, is contacted by the executor of his late-aunt's will, attorney Amanda Ray Ross (Patricia Kalember). Felix est un écrivain raté qui habite un modeste hôtel meublé. Un soir en rentrant il apprend par courrier que son dernier roman est refusé, son logeur lui fait part des récriminations de sa voisine de palier qui entend le crépitement de sa machine à écrire toute la nuit. Doris, sa voisine, travaille dans le milieu du sexe, elle a tourné dans un film X, fait la gogo danseuse, et se prostitue. Felix qui ignore ses activités l'aperçoit dans une tenue équivoque par sa fenêtre, prend ses jumelles, et se rend compte que de l'argent est échangé. Il la dénonce auprès du logeur qui la flanque de suite à la porte. Doris ne s'en laisse pas compter et parvient à pénétrer et à s'incruster chez Felix en exigeant qu'il l'héberge pour la nuit. Le ton finira par monter et une violente dispute attirera tout le voisinage. Le logeur intervient et met Felix à la porte. Felix et Doris réussissent à se faire héberger chez un ami. S'ensuivra un jeu de chat et de la souris entre eux deux, leurs univers très différents ne cesseront de s'opposer parfois très violemment, mais ils finiront par se rapprocher l'un de l'autre. À la fin, ils décident de faire comme s'ils venaient seulement de se rencontrer et partent ensemble.
