Synopsis
In 1876, Prince Leopold Mountbatten, Duke of Albany (Hugh Jackman), is a stifled dreamer. His strict uncle Millard (Paxton Whitehead) has no patience for his disrespect for the monarchy, chastising him and telling him he must marry a rich American, as the Mountbatten family finances are depleted. After his uncle told him that on his "thirtieth birthday he had become a blemish to the family name", Leopold counters that the new nobility is to be found in those who pursue initiatives, hence his interest in the sciences.Actors

Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) is a famous photographer and confirmed womanizer. The film begins with Tyler (Patrick Probst) and little brother Logan (Leo Howard) at the movie theater watching a brand new action film, that Tyler thinks was amazing, while Logan thinks it was bad and had no content. Then Logan tells Tyler about his plans to make a movie. Tyler says that he can make a movie. Then, while looking for actors, and crew workers, he faces rejection from his peers at school and his careless parents at home. Then Logan turns to the one he can always count on- Tyler. But when Tyler gets mad at Logan because of a misunderstanding about losing his jacket for his concert, Tyler tells Logan that the movie was a stupid idea, and that it was so bad he couldn't even finish reading it. He tells Logan, "you're only doing this for the attention anyway. It's not worth it. You're never gonna finish it, Logan". Then, while the parents are out and Tyler is at his band concert, Logan does what Tyler never thought he would- he tries to hang himself. Tyler comes up after getting angry at his orchestra leader, he looks all over the house trying to find Logan- and when he does, he is hanging from a tree in the backyard. Logan lives but if Tyler was two minutes late, he would have been brain dead. Although Tyler tries to get through the tragedy with the help of his friends, Ben (Booboo Stewart) and Carlie (Nicole Cummins), he just cannot. At the turn of the unexpected tragedy, the brothers' relationship is altered forever and Tyler is challenged to do whatever it takes to see his little brother's project succeed, even if that means risking it all.

In response to a record high crime rate in Johannesburg, the South African government purchases a squadron of state-of-the-art, armour-plated attack robots from weapons manufacturer Tetravaal, developed by Deon Wilson. A competing project is the remotely controlled MOOSE, developed by soldier-turned-engineer Vincent Moore. Deon is praised for Tetravaal's success but Vincent grows jealous when the police are unwilling to give his heavy weapons platform equal attention. At home, Deon creates a prototype artificial intelligence that mimics a human mind to the point of feeling emotions and having opinions, but Tetravaal CEO Michelle Bradley refuses to let him test the A.I. on a police robot. Undeterred, Deon steals a recently damaged robot before it is destroyed and puts it in his van, along with the "guard key" needed to update the robot's software. On his way home, he is kidnapped by a group of gangsters, Ninja, Yolandi, and Amerika, who threaten to kill him unless he reprograms a police robot to fight for them. Deon installs the new software into the damaged robot, which responds with childlike terror upon powering up. Deon and Yolandi calm the robot, teaching it words and naming it "Chappie". Despite Deon wanting to stay with the robot, Ninja forces him out of their hideout.

Nine-year-old Milo (Seth Green, voice-over by Seth Dusky) is just beginning summer vacation, and his father (Tom Everett Scott) is leaving for a business trip. While Milo is wanting his summer to be a fun one, his mother (Joan Cusack) assigns him chores and tasks like taking out the trash. At dinnertime, Milo is given broccoli.
