Synopsis
The film is about infighting between visiting prostitutes and fishermen's wives in a small fishing village in rural Southern Chile that has become greedy and crazy for Chilean abalone. In Spanish the word loco has the dual meaning of Chilean abalone and crazy. The film's tagline was "Amor y avaricia en un mundo de buzos y moluscos" (Spanish for: Love and greed in a world of scuba and mollusks). The film's title in German was Das Loco-Fieber and English Loco Fever. In the film all hell breaks loose when the Chilean government temporarily lifts the ban on the collection of the Chilean abalone, a mollusk with aphrodisiacal effects.Actors

The film is from the perspective of Gonzalo Infante, a privileged Chilean boy, during a time period in which the lower classes are politically mobilized, demanding more rights and forcing fundamental change. At the same time the upper middle class, including Gonzalo's own family, grow fearful of the growing socialist movement and plot against the country's elected president, Salvador Allende. Gonzalo's father, while sympathetic to the poor and not part of the right-wing movement, wants to leave the country to Italy, where he frequently travels for work, to avoid the Socialist policies. Sra. Infante is having an affair with a wealthy older gentleman, who gives Gonzalo gifts to keep him quiet. Gonzalo is sometimes bullied by his sister's boyfriend, who is a violent anti-Allende right-winger who uses nun-chucks to intimidate people. The family often buys products off of the black market, due to rationing and shortages.

La tradition a toujours été respectée dans ce petit village du Gujarat, surtout par les femmes qui ne remettent pas en cause l'organisation patriarcale, voire franchement phallocrate, de cette société rurale. Rani, jeune veuve, négocie, avec son amie Lajjo, le mariage de son fils Gulab avec une jeune adolescente, Janaki. L'affaire est conclue. Quand les deux femmes reviennent à leur village, un conseil est réuni pour décider l'avenir d'une jeune fille qui fuit sa belle-famille parce que son mari la délaisse et que les autres hommes de la belle-famille abusent d'elle. Mais les anciens ne sauraient tolérer une telle infamie : il renvoie la jeune fille à son sort. Rani tente vainement, mais mollement de protester. Rani, Lajjo, questionnées, aiguillonnées par leur amie Bijli, prostituée et danseuse d'une sorte de cabaret, commencent à remettre en cause cet ordre moral qui interdit l'éducation et l'indépendance aux femmes. Le film se termine par la crémation symbolique du démon Rāvaṇa lors de la nuit de Dussehra commémorant la libération de Sītā par son époux Rāma, nuit au cours de laquelle périt par le feu Manoj, le mari alcoolique et violent de Lajjo. Puis les trois femmes partent sur le triporteur bariolé du cabaret, libres et sans but.

Les cheveux tondus pour renoncer à sa sensualité et sa féminité, elle devient nonne bouddhiste .

1: The Punishment Begins Berlin, 1928. Franz Biberkopf is released after serving four years in Tegel prison for killing his girlfriend Ida. After settling into his old apartment he visits Minna, Ida’s sister. Minna succumbs to his forceful advances. In a flashback we see Franz kill Ida with a cream whip after correctly suspecting she was about to leave him. Franz later runs into his old friend Meck and has a drink with him in Max’s bar, a local place. There he meets Lina Przybilla, a young Polish woman, who moves in with him. He receives notification from the Berlin Police that he is barred from living in certain Berlin districts and surrounding municipalities, under the threat of a fine or imprisonment, Biberkopf places himself under the supervision of a charity called Prisoners' Aid, to which he must report once a month, and remain in employment. By doing this, he is able to remain in Berlin.

One night, Lucy (Judy Davis) gets a taxi to the home of author Harry Block (Woody Allen). She has just read Harry's latest novel.
