On the deck, the sole child aboard, Katie Harwood, is sitting alone, until the ship's captain offers to dance with her. Elsewhere, a hand presses a lever that unravels a spool of wire from the ship's cargo crane. The spool snaps and the wire slices across the dance floor, cutting the dancers in half at the waist.
