Add to a movie listSteel Magnolias is a 1989 American comedy-drama directed by Herbert Ross. It is the film adaptation of Robert Harling's 1987 play of the same name. The play and film are about the bond a group of different women share in a small-town southern community, and how they cope with the death of one of their own.
The story is based on Robert Harling's real life and the death of his sister Susan Harling Robinson in 1985 due to early diabetes. He changed his sister's name in the story from Susan, to Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie.
The title suggests the main female characters can be both as delicate as the magnolia flower, and as tough as steel.
Synopsis
Annelle Dupuy (Daryl Hannah), a reserved and ditzy beauty school graduate, is hired by Truvy Jones (Dolly Parton) to work in her home-based beauty salon in northwestern Louisiana. At the same time in another part of the neighbourhood, M'Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field) and her daughter, Shelby (Julia Roberts), are preparing for Shelby's wedding day, which is taking place later that day. They arrive, along with Clairee Belcher (Olympia Dukakis), the cheerful widow of the late former mayor, to have their hair done. Suddenly, Shelby, who has type one diabetes, falls into a hypoglycemic state but recovers quickly with the help of her mother's persistence and quick thinking. M'Lynn explains that Shelby was recently informed by doctors that she isn't able to have children.Actors

Felix est un écrivain raté qui habite un modeste hôtel meublé. Felix qui ignore ses activités l'aperçoit dans une tenue équivoque par sa fenêtre, prend ses jumelles, et se rend compte que de l'argent est échangé. Il la dénonce auprès du logeur qui la flanque de suite à la porte. Doris ne s'en laisse pas compter et parvient à pénétrer et à s'incruster chez Felix en exigeant qu'il l'héberge pour la nuit. Le ton finira par monter et une violente dispute attirera tout le voisinage. Le logeur intervient et met Felix à la porte. Felix et Doris réussissent à se faire héberger chez un ami. S'ensuivra un jeu de chat et de la souris entre eux deux, leurs univers très différents ne cesseront de s'opposer parfois très violemment, mais ils finiront par se rapprocher l'un de l'autre. À la fin, ils décident de faire comme s'ils venaient seulement de se rencontrer et partent ensemble.

Al Lewis (George Burns) and Willy Clark (Walter Matthau) are two old comedians who were once a popular vaudeville comedy act known as "Lewis and Clark" and also called the Sunshine Boys. After 43 years together, they parted ways 11 years ago on unfriendly terms and have not spoken to each other since then. The break-up was due, in part, to Al's intent to retire and Willy's desire to continue performing. The movie opens with Peter Burton (Cusack) and best friend Tim Garrity (Spader) nervously awaiting the results of Peter's congressional election. The two had met seven years earlier following an argument in the parking lot at law school. After discovering that they are to be roommates, the men become close friends. Dr. John H. Watson (Robert Duvall) becomes convinced that his friend Sherlock Holmes (Nicol Williamson) is delusional—particularly in his belief that Professor James Moriarty (Laurence Olivier) is a criminal mastermind—as a result of his addiction to cocaine.
