Add to a movie listStereo is a 2014 German thriller film directed by Maximilian Erlenwein. The film premiered in the Panorama section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. On 5 July 2014 the film was presented at the Vologda Independent Cinema Voices Festival. The North American Premiere was celebrated at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal on 31 July 2014. Stereo opened the South Korean Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival 2014. It was also shown in the "Sang Neuf" (Young Blood) Section at the Beaune Film Festival 2014 and in the International Competition Programme of the Odessa International Film Festival.
Stereo was one of 15 potential films to be considered as Germany's candidate to the Academy Awards 2015 as the Best Foreign Language Film, but it was not selected.

Venu de Berlin, David, journaliste, s'installe dans une petite ville. Le jeune homme se lie d'amitié avec son voisin, le plus costaud Robert, bien que les deux hommes n'aient que leur solitude en commun. Cette bonne entente, faite d'excellents dîners et de parties de pêche à la ligne, est soudain compromise par un accident affreux. De son côté, David, qui ne parvient pas à se départir d'un sentiment de culpabilité, commence à fréquenter d'autres personnes à qui il pourrait tout révéler. Blessé et inquiet, Robert devient de plus en plus autoritaire.

Un couple d'Allemands, Niels et Maria, vivent avec leur fils Markus dans une ville norvégienne sur le bord de l'océan Arctique, au nord-ouest du pays. Ils ont émigré en espérant donner un second souffle à leur vie de famille. Un jour, en rentrant du travail, Maria est impliquée dans un accident de la route, et semble avoir écrasé quelqu'un ou quelque chose. Rebecca vient de fuguer d'un hôpital psychiatrique pour rejoindre Henry, son mari dépressif. The movie portrays an attempt in 1936 to summit the Eiger via the north face by two competing climbing teams. The more prominently featured pair of German climbers are Toni Kurz (Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Lukas) from Berchtesgaden. After being refused leave from the German army (falsely claiming one of them is getting married and the other is to be Best Man), they quit their service in order to make the attempt. They are portrayed as being more interested in mountaineering than in the current politics of the time. The competing team of Austrians that eventually teams up with the German team are portrayed as hoping for a Nazi-led incorporation of Austria into Germany. Watching their summit attempt is their childhood friend Luise (Wokalek), now working for a German newspaper, who is accompanied by her cynical superior Mr. Arau (Tukur).
