The Fugitive Kind is a 1960 American drama film starring Marlon Brando and Anna Magnani, and directed by Sidney Lumet. The screenplay by Meade Roberts and Tennessee Williams was based on the latter's 1957 play Orpheus Descending, itself a revision of his unproduced 1940 work Battle of Angels.
Despite being set in the Deep South, the United Artists release was filmed in Milton, New York. At the 1960 San Sebastián International Film Festival, it won the Silver Seashell for Sidney Lumet and the Zulueta Prize for Best Actress for Joanne Woodward.
The film is available on videotape and DVD. A two-disc DVD edition by The Criterion Collection was released in April 2010.
A stage production also took place in 2010 at the Arclight Theatre starring Michael Brando, grandson of Marlon Brando, in the lead role. This particular production used the edited film version of the text as opposed to the original play.
Synopsis
Valentine "Snakeskin" Xavier, a guitar-playing drifter, flees New Orleans in order to avoid arrest. He finds work in a small-town five-and-dime owned by an embittered older woman known as Lady Torrance, whose vicious husband Jabe lies on his deathbed in their apartment above the store. Both alcoholic nymphomaniac Carol Cutrere and simple housewife Vee Talbott set their sights on the newcomer, but Val succumbs to the charms of Lady, who plans to set him up with a refreshment bar. Sheriff Talbott, a friend of Jabe, threatens to kill Val if he remains in town, but he chooses to stay when he discovers Lady is pregnant. His decision sparks Jabe's jealousy and leads to tragic consequences.Actors

À New York, du côté de Brooklyn, les membres d'une pauvre famille d'immigrés italiens se déchirent à cause de la relation amoureuse entre Rodolfo, jeune cousin clandestin fraîchement débarqué, et Catherine, nièce du patriarche Eddie Carbone, un docker des quais de Brooklyn. Ce dernier l'a élevé comme sa fille et la protège peut-être plus que de raison. Pour l'empêcher d'épouser Rodolfo, Eddie dénonce celui-ci aux services de l'immigration ; Marco (le frère de Rodolfo, lui aussi immigré, hébergé et dénoncé par Eddie) désire se venger. Eddie, s'estimant blessé dans son honneur (Marco l'a en effet insulté et lui a craché au visage aux yeux de la communauté), souhaite également en découdre avec ce dernier. Les deux s'affrontent dans un combat final, lors duquel Eddie perd tragiquement la vie.

Famed playwright Sidney Bruhl (Caine) debuts the latest in a series of Broadway flops and returns to his opulent Long Island home and his wife, Myra (Cannon). Although their financial situation is not dire, Sidney is hungry for a hit. He has received a manuscript of a play called Deathtrap written by one of his students, Clifford Anderson, that he considers near perfection. Clifford recently attended one of Sidney's writing workshops and now asks for input on his play. Sidney suggests that he murder Clifford and producing the play as his own. He invites Clifford to their secluded home, decorated with weapons from Sidney's plays, to discuss it.
