The movie was shot in Annonay, France and won the audience awards at the Venice Film Festival for "Best Film" and "Best Actor" (Jean Rochefort) in 2002.
Though not an English-language film, the UK Film Council awarded £500,000 (€750,000) to assist its production.
Paramount Classics acquired the United States distribution rights of this film and gave it a limited US theatrical release on May 9, 2003 to a total of 85 theaters; this film went on to gross $2,542,020 in United States theaters, which is a solid result for a non-English film. Paramount Classics was ecstatic with this film's performance in the United States market.
Synopsis
Milan (Hallyday) arrives in a small town by train at the start of the week. The hotel is closed, but he finds accommodation via a chance meeting with a retired French teacher, Manesquier (Rochefort). The film tells the story of the developing relationship between these apparent opposites, though looming in the background are two unavoidable events that each is expecting to take place on the Saturday - Manesquier is to undergo a major operation, and Milan (though he keeps this secret at first) is to lead a bank robbery. Manesquier soon realises Milan's intentions, but this does not prevent a growing mutual respect, with each envying the other's lifestyle.Actors

The plot centres around knifethrower Gabor (Auteuil) and a girl called Adèle (Paradis), who intends to kill herself by jumping from a bridge. Gabor intervenes to prevent the suicide and persuades Adèle to become the target girl in his knifethrowing act. The film then follows their relationship as they travel around Europe with the act. Their companionship and teamwork mean great luck for both of them. Then they get separated and their lives once again become luckless. The film ends on a bridge in Istanbul, this time with her saving him from suicide.

Alors qu'il lui reste un an de détention à tirer, Stéphane Carella, casseur notoire, doit être transféré dans une autre prison dans un fourgon de gendarmerie dont le trajet passe dans les gorges du Verdon. Mais les gendarmes viennent en aide à des collègues, dont le véhicule vient d'avoir un léger accident, les obligeant à menotter Carella avec un certain Paul Brandon, individu apparemment violent et dangereux. C'est alors que Brandon neutralise un gendarme et s'évade en compagnie de Carella, avec lequel il est toujours menotté. Après avoir escaladé des falaises et plongé dans un torrent pour échapper à leurs poursuivants, les deux hommes réussissent à échapper aux policiers et trouvent refuge dans une maison isolée où vit Laura. La jeune femme, employée dans un parc d'attractions, les aide volontiers, car son mari a été tué un an auparavant par les forces de l'ordre. Cette dernière tombe sous le charme des deux hommes.

The characters from the first two films get together again, 27 years on, in Sardinia. The film begins in a flashback from the titular character, Antoine. We are introduced to his fixation with female hairdressers which began at a young age. The film uses flashbacks throughout and there are frequent parallels drawn with the past. Though Antoine tells Mathilde that 'the past is dead', his life is evidence that on some level the past repeats itself. As a young boy he fantasised about a hairdresser who committed suicide and as a man in his 50s he begins an affair with a hairdresser which ends after ten years in her suicide. However there are differences, Mathilde commits suicide because she is so happy she is afraid of the happiness she has found with Antoine ending.

Le commissaire Pichard et l'inspecteur Charbonnier mènent une enquête extravagante sur un crime commis sans mobile apparent. Un poinçonneur d'autobus est retrouvé mort dans ses wc, victime d'un assassinat. Détail surprenant : le verrou était fermé de l'intérieur. S'ensuit une enquête pour le moins loufoque, dans laquelle les deux policiers se lancent sur des pistes improbables, avant que le commissaire Pichard ne parvienne finalement à faire la lumière sur cette affaire.
