The story follows Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, rival stage magicians in London at the end of the 19th century. Obsessed with creating the best stage illusion, they engage in competitive one-upmanship with tragic results.
The American-British co-production features Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier, Christian Bale as Alfred Borden, and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. It also stars Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Piper Perabo, Andy Serkis, and Rebecca Hall. The film reunites Nolan with actors Bale and Caine from Batman Begins, and returning cinematographer Wally Pfister, production designer Nathan Crowley, film score composer David Julyan, and editor Lee Smith.
A co-production between Touchstone Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, the film was released on October 20, 2006, receiving positive reviews and strong box office results, and received Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. Along with The Illusionist and Scoop, The Prestige was one of three films in 2006 to explore the world of stage magicians.
Synopsis
The film begins with a magician (Michael Caine) performing a vanishing bird illusion for a young girl explaining that each trick has three parts: The Pledge, where the audience is presented with an ordinary object; The Turn, where the object is turned into something extraordinary; and The Prestige, where the object is brought back.Actors

Eight years after Harvey Dent's (Aaron Eckhart) death, the Dent Act grants the Gotham City Police Department powers which nearly eradicate organized crime. Feeling guilty for covering up Dent's crimes, Police Commissioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) writes a resignation speech confessing the truth but decides not to use it. Batman has disappeared, and Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has become a recluse. Cat burglar Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) obtains Bruce's fingerprints from his home, kidnaps a congressman, then disappears. Selina hands Bruce's fingerprints to Phillip Stryver (Burn Gorman), an assistant to Bruce's business rival John Daggett (Ben Mendelsohn), in hope of having her criminal record erased. Stryver double-crosses Selina, but she uses the congressman's stolen phone to alert the police to their location. Gordon and the police arrive to find the congressman, and then pursue Stryver's men into the sewers while Selina flees. A masked militant named Bane (Tom Hardy) captures Gordon. Gordon escapes and is found by John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a once-orphaned patrol officer who has deduced Batman's true identity from their similar backgrounds. Gordon promotes Blake to detective, with Blake reporting directly to him.

Shortly after the dawn of the new millennium, during construction on the London Underground, workers penetrate an underground cave. A huge dragon emerges from hibernation, incinerating the workers with its flaming breath. The only survivor is a boy, Quinn Abercromby (Ben Thornton), whose mother Karen (Alice Krige) is the construction crew chief; Karen is crushed to death while protecting Quinn as the dragon climbs to the surface. It flies out of the Underground and more dragons appear, multiplying rapidly. Shown in newspaper clippings and a voiceover, scientists discover that dragons are a lost species responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs by incinerating them and eating their ash, as well as ice ages. The dragons are speculated to hibernate after destroying most of the Earth's creatures until the planet repopulates. After the dragons' awakening humanity resists militarily, including a 2010 use of nuclear weapons; this, however, hastens the destruction and within a few years humans are nearly extinct.

Jack Wyatt is a narcissistic actor who is approached to play the role of Darrin in a remake of the 1960s sitcom Bewitched, but insists that an unknown play Samantha. Kaulder (Vin Diesel) is a witch-hunter who was cursed with eternal life in the Middle Ages by the Witch Queen (Julie Engelbrecht). The Witch Queen was planning to unleash a deadly plague to wipe out humanity but Kaulder was able to defeat her. Prior to seemingly dying the Witch Queen cursed him with eternal life as punishment. 800 years later, Kaulder is still working as a witch hunter for an organization which aims to keep the truce between humans and witches. Ever since he was made immortal by the Witch Queen, Kaulder is accompanied by a priest called a "Dolan" whose main purpose is to record the achievements of Kaulder and to be his keeper. The 36th Dolan (Michael Caine) is retiring from his duties and has chosen a new Dolan to work alongside Kaulder. However, the very same night he dies in his sleep. While investigating his apartment, Kaulder and the 37th Dolan (Elijah Wood) discover traces of magic and deduce that the 36th Dolan was murdered by a witch. While tracking down the witch responsible, Kaulder finds traces of old dark magic, last seen before he killed the Witch Queen. Using clues the 36th Dolan left behind, Kaulder goes to a witch bar owned by Chloe (Rose Leslie) to buy a memory spell to "Remember his death". While in the process of reliving his memory, the bar is attacked by Balkazar Kotela, better known as Belial (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), the witch that killed the 36th Dolan. After attacking Kaulder he proceeds to burn down the place, and attack Chloe at her apartment later in the evening, though Kaulder saves her. After Chloe's friend is killed by Belial, she agrees to help Kaulder get what he needs to kill him.
