Add to a movie listWoodshop is an independent film written and directed by Peter Coggan that was released on DVD on September 7, 2010. Produced by Colorado-based 42 Productions, the film originally premiered at the University of Colorado ATLAS Institute in Boulder, CO on February 15, 2009.
While in pre-production of a project known as Coda, Pete Coggan came across technological and budgetary issues. Coggan wanted to originally film with a 35mm camera, but was advised to buy the then upcoming Red One camera. Calculating the risk in waiting for its release and experimenting with this new camera for his ambitious science fiction project, Coggan decided to temporarily shelve Coda and make use of the pre-production crew, actors and new technology he had set for it. Over the period of one of weekend, Coggan developed a script from ideas he wrote in high school woodshop class. This became Woodshop, 42 Productions’ first self-produced feature film and one of the first to be shot in ultra-high definition with the Red One camera technology.
Synopsis
Class valedictorian Chris Johnson is a high school senior whose only interested in one thing: maintaining his 4.0 GPA and moving on to an Ivy League school. But when he blows up a classroom in a chemistry class mishap, he receives a devastating “F” that threatens his ambitions. So Chris strikes a deal with the school’s principal and agrees to spend one Saturday of detention in the woodshop in exchange for wiping the grade from his record. What Chris didn’t count on was having to survive the ex-Army Ranger who runs the woodshop, the eccentric students in class and one kid’s plan to blow them all up.Actors

A serial killer, having murdered over 30 people, is on the loose in a Los Angeles suburb. A television repairman with a pronounced limp, named Horace Pinker (Mitch Pileggi), becomes the prime suspect. When the investigating detective, Lt. Don Parker (Michael Murphy), gets too close, Pinker murders Parker's wife, foster daughter, and foster son. However, his other foster son Jonathan (Peter Berg) develops a strange connection to Pinker through his dreams and leads Parker to Pinker's rundown shop. In a shootout in which several officers are killed, Pinker manages to escape. He targets Jonathan's girlfriend Allison (Camille Cooper) in retribution.

Vulcanologist Peter Slater Dan Cortese, studying elevated steam-activity on Angel Mountain, finds evidence of an impending eruption such as many animals lying dead for no apparent reason. His ex-girlfriend Kelly Adams, a resident of the eponymous town, is told about his findings—which unfortunately, happen to be during the peak tourist season. Kelly tries in vain to warn the townsfolk and council of the danger, but they fail to heed and evacuate—until the mountain shows ashfall. After several attempts to find a solution, Peter declares that the lava is soon going to come down like "a liquid avalanche" which gives Kelly the idea (due to Angel Mountain and some others nearby being snowcapped) of using a snow avalanche to stop the lava flow—at which Peter balks, until Kelly tells him of the lack of other albernatives. The two then set out skiing to planting explosives to set off a controlled avalanche to stop the flow—but in attempting to escape the resulting avalanche Peter gets buried and Kelly makes it into town to witness the result, the snow avalanche blocking off (and solidifying) the lava-flow. At that point, Peter manages to dig himself out and return to town, after which he and Kelly rekindle their romance.

The film is based on Alan Aylward's work with physically disabled children as a recreational therapist at a residential chronic care centre in Toronto from 1974 to 1980. The original script suggested Nick Nolte as Blake (played by Mike Ironside) and John Hurt as Johnnie (played by Brad Dourif). Hurt (who Aylward had worked with on his Documentary Series - The Disability Myth, was interested in the role of Johnnie) Nolte's agent wanted a few million dollars for a retainer which Aylward couldn't muster in his life. Thus the next choice - Ironside. The film only got made because of Mike Ironside. He was on set with Nick Nolte and Powers Boothe in New Mexico making a film called Extreme Prejudice. Aylward gave the script to Lori Rotenberg, Mike's Toronto agent, who sent it to Ironside to read for the role of Blake. Ironside just finished the script (a prison story) when Nolte emerged from his trailer to announce that he had just secured the rights to produce "Weeds", based on the book by the same name - and also "a prison story". Ironside thought it was pure serendipity. If Nolte's gutsy enough to make a prison film, why not Ironside. Mike optioned the script from Aylward in 1987/88 and despite the odds, got it produced in Vancouver and released within two years - Kudos to him. A few years later, the British Columbia Corrections Ministry started a program between prisoners and institutionalized handicapped patients based on the fictitious rehabilitation program in Chaindance.

On his wedding night in 1953, an errant champagne cork renders college engineering professor Robert Kearns (Greg Kinnear) almost completely blind in his left eye. A decade later, he is happily married to Phyllis (Lauren Graham) and the father of six children. As he drives his Ford Galaxie through a light rain, the constant movement of the windshield wipers irritates his troubled vision. The incident inspires him to create a wiper blade mechanism modeled on the human eye, which blinks every few seconds rather than continuously.
