An autocratic bad tempered woman controls family members-her husband, two brothers and the servants which symbolizes the political dictatorship of Ayub Khan in then East Pakistan. Both stories run in parallel. Outside, the people of East Pakistan(now Bangladesh)rise in political protest, and inside, the family members raise their voices against the tyrannical woman. The two brothers get married and the situation gets more complicated when there are conspiracies for the control of the family between the sister-in-laws by having the keys of the house.

In 1971 the people of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) waged a bitter war of liberation against West Pakistan, which ended in December in 1971 with the foundation of the state of Bangladesh. The film Muktir Gaan is an special and rear archive of footage of this war. Firstly the footage taken by American filmmaker Lear Levin shot of a group of young musicians and actors who at the time travelled through the country with battle songs and political puppet shows. The film follows the group not only during their performances for refugees and guerillas but also during their travels, which has produced many melancholy pictures. Levin's material is available for the first time thanks to two filmmakers from Bangladesh who, being discontent with the present regime, wanted to remind the Bengal people of the initial motives of the war of liberation: freedom and democracy. Despite opposition by the government, the film was screened in Bangladesh where it was a resounding success.

Dipu (Arun Saha), a boy of about twelve years lives with his father (Bulbul Ahmed ). Dipu’s father is a government officer and because of his transferable job, they arrive at a picturesque town. Dipu immediately develops a liking to this new town and his new school. He makes a lot of friends but starts a feud with the school bully Tarique (Shubhashish) on the very first day. Tarique, unable to intimidate Dipu tries many tricks on him and even beats him up one day. Though Dipu does not complain this to anybody, instead he contemplates to punish Tarique himself. But one day a small adventure atop a high water tank changes his feelings towards Tarique.

During World War II, a famine broke out. It was called "Panchasher Akal" as it occurred in Bengali 1350s and thousands people died that time. Jaigun was one of them who survived in the Longorkhana that time whose husband abandoned her during the famine. She was accompanied with his son of first husband and daughter of second husband and also her sister-in-law and her nephew. They came back home and build a house in a land that was called "Apoya Vita". When she was struggling hard to live, Godu Prodhan, a influential person of village, proposed her to marry him. At that time, his second husband wants her again. But she refused both. When these two competitors meet one another, her second husband was killed by Godu Prodhan. Jaigun was only eye witness and so Godu burns her house.
