Moctar is a young boy who, although born in France, has grown up in Mali. At the age of eleven, he moves with his family to live in Paris. Moctar struggles to adjust to life in France, and is homesick for Africa. He begins to see visions of a hyena in the street. When he tells people, nobody believes him. He is laughed at by his schoolmates and sent to the school psychologist. He meets a man in the street called Paulo who helps Moctar to understand his visions.

The film takes place in Niger and the surrounding region of the Sahel. It begins with the initiation and establishment as queen of the Aznas of a young girl. The young queen, Sarraounia, becomes an accomplished warrior when she defends her tribe from an enemy tribe. Accomplished in archery and herbalism, she is a renowned sorceress. Meanwhile, French colonialists Paul Voulet and Julien Chanoine set out to conquer new lands for the French colonial empire. As they advance across the land they rape women and leave burning villages in their wake.

Elle a été utilisée par le célèbre combattant africain Samory Touré ; traqué par les colons français, sa dernière devise restera dans l’histoire : « Borry Bana, ce camp sera le dernier ». Norbert Zongo a repris cette expression quand il a fondé son propre journal, L’Indépendant, en déclarant « L’Indépendant sera indépendant ou ne sera pas ». Ce fut sa dernière bataille. Le film revient sur l’affaire de l’assassinat du journaliste d’investigation Norbert Zongo, qui bouleversa le Burkina Faso. Un hommage à un homme qui a consacré sa vie à défendre les faibles et les sans voix.

Kaya Maghan, the despotic king of Wagadou, follows the instructions of his priest by ordering the religious sacrifice to the Python God of Sia Yatabene, the virgin daughter of a notable family. A gift of gold equivalent to Sia’s weight is given to her family as compensation for surrendering their daughter for the sacrifice. However, Sia runs away and finds shelter in the home of a mad prophet who has railed against the king. The king orders his top general to locate Sia, but the general is conflicted since Sia was engaged to marry his nephew, Mamadi, who is in battle on behalf of the kingdom. Mamadi returns and joins his uncle to do battle against the Python God.
