Anna Deavere Smith (born September 18, 1950) is an American actress, playwright, and professor. She is currently the artist-in-residence at the Center for American Progress. Smith is widely known for her roles as National Security Advisor Dr. Nancy McNally in The West Wing (2000–06), and as hospital administrator Gloria Akalitus in the Showtime series Nurse Jackie (2009–15). She is a recipient of The Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize (2013), one of the richest prizes in the American arts, with a remuneration of $300,000, and was named the Jefferson Lecturer for 2015.

Au début des années 1990, l'auteure Lee Israel peine à renouer avec le succès de ses premiers livres. Sa nouvelle biographie sur Estée Lauder est un véritable échec. Dotée d'un caractère acariâtre et anticonformiste, elle ne fait rien pour s'adapter aux contraintes du monde littéraire et se brouille avec son éditeur. Elle sombre alors dans le syndrome de la page blanche et dans l'alcoolisme. Pressée par le manque d'argent, elle se résigne à vendre une lettre de Katharine Hepburn qu'elle avait encadrée. Elle va alors se découvrir un « don » : imiter à la perfection le style de grands écrivains et autres célébrités. Avec son ami Jack Hock, un homosexuel fantasque, elle monte une arnaque imparable, qui consiste à rédiger de fausses correspondances entre personnalités célèbres. Jack vend ensuite ces fausses lettres à des libraires de Greenwich Village, qui alimentent un marché florissant de collectionneurs passionnés. Mais les deux compères ne savent pas que le FBI s’intéresse désormais à eux.

Kym (Anne Hathaway) is released from drug rehab for a few days so she can go home to attend the wedding of her sister Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt). At home, the atmosphere is strained between Kym and her family members as they struggle to reconcile themselves with her past and present. Kym's father (Bill Irwin) shows intense concern for her well-being and whereabouts, which Kym interprets as mistrust. She also resents her sister's choice of her best friend Emma (Anisa George), rather than Kym, to be her maid of honor. Rachel, for her part, resents the attention her sister's drug addiction is drawing away from her wedding, a resentment that comes to a head at the rehearsal dinner, where Kym, amid toasts from friends and family, takes the microphone to offer an apology for her past actions, as part of her twelve-step program.
