Biography

Annie Miller fait la connaissance de son futur mari, Claude Miller, alors qu'elle est encore enfant. Ils habitent le boulevard de la Boissière à Montreuil-sous-Bois.

Dans les années 70, Annie Miller entame une carrière d'actrice sous la direction de François Truffaut. Sur la même période, elle étend ses activités cinématographiques au travail d'assistante monteuse.

Elle épouse son ami d'enfance, Claude Miller, alors assistant entre autres de François Truffaut, et qu'elle encourage à réaliser son premier long métrage. Elle se lance dans la réalisation de courts-métrages et, parallèlement, devient la collaboratrice de son mari sur plusieurs de ses films.

En 1975, les Miller, découvrant la Creuse, ont un coup de cœur pour cette région. Annie Miller tourne une série de documentaires sur la vie dans le Limousin.

En 1987, le couple crée la société de production Les Films de la Boissière. Annie Miller produit, entre autres, certains films de son mari (Le sourire, La classe de neige, Betty Fisher et autres histoires, La Chambre des Magiciennes, La Petite Lili ) et des courts-métrages de son fils, Nathan Miller.

En 2010, les rencontres se faisant, avec Jean Guy Soumy , un atelier d'écriture de scénarios, en résidence voit le jour ainsi qu'un festival de films, Ciné des Villes Ciné des Champs, occasion de faire connaitre l'univers du cinéma aux étudiants via des échanges avec des professionnels de ce milieu.

En 2012, Annie Miller et Natalie Carter, scénariste du film Thérèse Desqueyroux, sont les invitées du Festival de films Cinemania de Montréal (Canada) pour un hommage à Claude Miller (décédé le 5 avril 2012).

Jerome Martinaud, a wealthy, influential attorney in a small French town who falls under suspicion for the rape and murder of two little girls. He is the only suspect, but the evidence against him is circumstantial. As the city celebrates New Year's Eve, the police led by Inspector Antoine Gallien, who is investigating the double rape/murder case, brings the lawyer in for questioning; at first politely, and then less so, as the interrogation team consisting of Inspectors Gallien and Marcel Belmont chips away at the suspect's alibi. They interrogate him for hour after hour while Martinaud continues to maintain his innocence. We learn all about the evidence; we meet Martinaud's wife Chantal who tells Gallien about the rift between them and the origin of it, which may be an eight-year-old girl (Camille) Martinaud was in love with. On the face of overwhelming evidence and feeling let down by his wife, Martinaud confesses to the two rapes and murder. However a fresh corpse inside the boot of a stolen car, and the car's owner turns out to be guilty of the crime--exculpating Martinaud. Martinaud leaves the police station and finds his wife who has committed suicide.

The action takes place ten years after the end of World War I in a small town in France. The protagonist, Julien Davenne, is a war veteran who works as an editor at the newspaper, "The Globe". He specializes in funeral announcements ("a virtuoso of the obituary", as defined by its editor-in- chief) and the thought of death haunts him. Davenne has reserved a room for the worship of his wife, Julie, on the upper floor of the house he shares with his elderly housekeeper, Mrs. Rambaud, and Georges, a deaf-mute boy. His wife had died eleven years prior, at the height of her beauty.

The film begins in Paris around the year 1902 when Claude Roc and his widowed mother are visited by Ann Brown, daughter of an old friend. Ann invites Claude to spend the summer on the coast of Wales with her widowed mother and sister Muriel. While she enjoys Claude's company, her hope is that he may be a husband for her introverted sister. In the event, Claude and Muriel do start to fall in love and Mrs Brown, with the agreement of Madame Roc, says they must live apart for a year.
