Biography
À partir de 1968, il prend des cours à la School of Visual Arts de New York. Il devient ensuite dessinateur de bande dessinée et de caricatures pour de nombreux magazines. Certains de ses courts métrages, comme Plymptoons, sont des adaptations de ses bandes dessinées. Il a obtenu deux Grands prix du long métrage au Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy : en 1998 pour L'Impitoyable Lune de miel ! et en 2001 pour Les mutants de l'espace. Il y reçoit une mention spéciale en 2008 pour Guide Dog Il a également obtenu en 2001 à Cannes le Prix Canal+ du meilleur court métrage par la « Semaine Internationale de la Critique » pour le court métrage d'animation Eat. Quentin Tarantino dans Kill Bill, lui rend hommage. Uma Thurman pourchasse Bill qui tue son mari Tommy Plympton.Personnalité appréciée pour son dynamisme, sa productivité et sa disponibilité, il fréquente avec une certaine assiduité les festivals européens et internationaux (Anima de Bruxelles, Annecy en France…).

L'astronaute Earl Jensen s'envole pour une mission dans l'espace dirigée par le Dr Frubar, laissant derrière lui sa petite fille de cinq ans, Josie. Le lancement est un succès, mais le Dr Frubar fait croire à un incident et abandonne Earl dans l'espace. Kamila, a widowed mother, works as the housekeeper for Mustafa, a foreign poet, painter, and political activist being held under house arrest. Mustafa is guarded by the soldier Halim, who has a secret crush on Kamila. Kamila's daughter, Almitra, has stopped talking due to her father's death, and has become a troublemaker who frequently steals from local merchants. Almitra has seagulls for her only friends; she even seems able to talk to them by making birdlike noises. Halim's pompous Sergeant arrives to tell Mustafa that he is now free, but he must board a ship to his home country by day's end. The Sergeant escorts Mustafa to the ship, and Mustafa spends the time conversing with Kamila, Almitra and Halim, as well as with the townspeople, who regard him as a hero. Mustafa's conversations, ranging in topics from freedom to marriage to parenthood to eating, are animated by the movie's many directors in their own unique styles.

Un homme se réveille un beau matin avec des ailes sur son dos. Premier film de Bill Plympton sombre, il aborde un thème plus spirituel et plus personnel. Plympton explique avoir voulu dépeindre la lutte qui se joue entre le bien et le mal en chacun de nous. Le bien est ici symbolisé par les ailes qui poussent au personnage (et qu'il essaie de couper), le mal par le quotidien de tous les protagonistes (nuisance du réveil en sonnerie, agressivité routière, tabagie, éthylisme mondain, sarcasmes, petites ou grandes violences...). Ses ailes, dont son entourage se moque, poussent parfois le personnage à faire le bien malgré lui. Elles sont pour d'autres effet de convoitise. Volées, elles serviront à commettre des crimes profitant à un médecin et à un cabaretier, avant de revenir chez leur possesseur initial dont elles transforment la vie avant de s'envoler sans lui, peut-être pour de nouvelles aventures.

A gothic high-school comedy with a Carrie-like story. Cherri (Sarah Silverman) and Rod (Dermot Mulroney) are the high-school king and queen and they justifiably rule their domain. Spud (Eric Gilliland), the new kid in town, accidentally offends both Cherri and Rod and so is forced to become Cherri's slave. Naturally, they immediately hate each other, but later fall in love. Cherri and Spud secretly decide to go to the prom together, and on prom night a rejected Rod forces their car off the road and into the lake. In true 50's ballad style, their car sinks to the bottom of the lake as they share one last kiss. While the bodies of Cherri and Spud lie in a timeless embrace, Rod is successful in thwarting any investigation and is able to get away with murder. On the night of the following year's prom, the car magically comes to life and slowly drives out of the lake with Cherri and Spud, as if nothing had happened, only this time their bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition. Their rusty and water-logged car drives to the prom and just as Rod is about to crown himself new king of the prom, Cherri and Spud enter the ballroom - the spotlight follows them as they cross the dance floor, with all the attendees in shock. As they approach the stage, spiders, bugs, snakes, lizards and fish ooze from their sagging skin and skeletal bodies, and the prom attendees freak as they mount the stairs to the stage. Spud takes the crown and places it on Cherri as the animals attack and devour Rod.
