Charles Dierkop (born September 11, 1936) is an American film and television character actor.
Dierkop was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and attended Aquinas High School in La Crosse. He was cast in two George Roy Hill films, and played an outlaw both times — as "Flat Nose Curry" in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid he played a member of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, and as "Floyd" in The Sting, he acted as a bodyguard to Robert Shaw's New York gangster/griftee, Doyle Lonnegan. He is best known for his work in the Police Woman television series between 1974 and 1978. He is a lifetime member of The Actor's Studio.

At eight years old, James Dean lives with his estranged father Winton and mother Mildred in 1939 Santa Monica, California. When Mildred dies of cancer in 1940, Winton sends James on a train to Fairmount, Indiana, along with the coffin containing her body. In 1971, on a visit to his institutionalized grandfather, who warned 5-year-old Billy Chapman that Santa Claus punishes the naughty, his family happens to come across a man in a Santa Claus outfit seemingly having car trouble. The man - actually a criminal who has just used that disguise to rob a liquor store after he kills a man and escaped - pulls a gun and mercilessly kills Billy's father in front of him and his infant brother Ricky, then slits their mother's throat with a switch blade, leaving the children alive. Three years later, Billy and Ricky are celebrating Christmas in an orphanage run by Mother Superior, a strict disciplinarian, who persistently strikes children who misbehave and considers punishment for their wicked actions as a good thing. Sister Margaret seems to be the only one who sympathizes with the children, trying to get Billy to open up and play with the children, but they are constantly under Superior's scrutinizing eye and they regularly end up getting punished.

The film opens with a raid on an illegal casino performed by a group of blacks with automatic weapons. The audience discovers the perpetrators are white disguised as blacks. The story moves to a Vietnam War flashbacks with a patrol being ambushed by the Vietcong, and the resulting firefight. The leader of the vigilante veterans is a man known simply as the Lieutenant who was their platoon leader and disfigured in the action. The film takes place in 1936, at the height of the Great Depression.
