Danielle a lancé sa carrière à l’âge de 11 ans en jouant dans cinq épisodes de la série américaine, Prison Break. Elle a également tourné dans une publicité pour l'entreprise Build-A-Bear Workshop, puis elle est apparue dans le film dramatique, The Poker House. En 2010, à seulement 14 ans, elle a eu son premier grand rôle ; celui de Jessica Olson dans le Disney Channel Original Movie, Starstruck : Rencontre avec une star, aux côtés de Sterling Knight. Peu après la sortie du téléfilm, elle signe un contrat avec Disney Channel. L'année suivante, elle a joué dans le film Prom.

George Needleman, a nerdy, high level CFO in New York City, promises his son that he will take him to his Saturday afternoon baseball game after he gets back from the office. The film focuses on one single day in the life of three abused and neglected sisters, Agnes (age 14) (Jennifer Lawrence), Bee (age 12) (Sophi Bairley), and Cammie (age 8) (Chloë Grace Moretz). Their mother, Sarah (Selma Blair), a woman who has turned to prostitution to support the girls, but is forced into alcohol and drug abuse by her pimp, Duval (Bokeem Woodbine). Because of this, Sarah is unable to care for the girls, forcing Agnes into a position of being a mother to her two younger sisters. The three girls live in the mother's whorehouse, the Poker House, where neighborhood pimps and criminals gather to play poker as well. Agnes believes Duval loves her, as a boyfriend would, despite his abuse towards her mother.
