Darlan Cunha (Rio de Janeiro, September 16, 1988) is a Brazilian actor. Better known as Laranjinha from his breakthrough role in Cidade dos Homens and from his part in the film Cidade de Deus. He began his career when he was selected for the short film Palace II, along with Douglas Silva, becoming Acerola & Laranjinha.


In 2003 he was a subject for a documentary by the group Nós do Cinema. A documentary on his life and that of Douglas Silva.

Biography

Enfant vivant dans une favela de Rio, il apparaît dans le court-métrage Palace II, puis dans le film La Cité de Dieu, sorti en 2002. Dans la foulée, il devient un des deux personnages principaux de la série dérivée La Cité des hommes dans le rôle de Laranjinha (« la petite orange »), aux côtés de Douglas Silva.

In the opening scene, chickens are being prepared for a meal when a chicken escapes and an armed gang chases after it in a favela called the Cidade de Deus ("City of God"). The chicken stops between the gang and a young man named Rocket (Buscapé), who believes that the gang wants to kill him. A flashback traces Rocket, the narrator, back to the late 1960s. He lived incredibly poor in this slum of Rio.
