Avril 1945. L'Allemagne nazie, en plein chaos, vit ses dernières heures avant de capituler. The film centers upon a nameless student (Pit Bukowski) who has rented a room at a lake-side home with the expectation that he will find peace and quiet. However when he arrives, he finds that the room was far from what he was expecting, as the home is actually a bunker, but he chooses to stay despite this. Soon after, his bizarre landlords (Oona von Maydell and David Scheller) begin to insist that he tutor their son Klaus (Daniel Fripan), who they believe will become President of the United States, despite being born in Germany. Stranger still is their insistence that an alien lives within the mother's leg and that Klaus is only 8 years old, despite looking far older.

Two years have passed since Henry, Katharina, Tristan and Magdalena have become a family. Everyday life has returned, yet chaos breaks out. Henry begins a career as a film producer. For his first major film he has to work with the eccentric young actor Matthias Schweighöfer. Meanwhile, Katharina has become a mother and struggles with her role as a housewife and mother to baby Louis. Fred plans to marry his girlfriend Mara, and he proposes her at the sold–out basketball match. Instead of accepting, Mara puts that decision on her spoiled son, Linus. In order to get Linus to like him, Fred decides to give him a basketball from the Linus' favourite team. He poses as a wheelchair–bound fan so that he could get it.
