Derek Magyar is an American actor of Hungarian origin. He is best known as the director and producer of the film Flying Lessons, as the lead character "X" in the film Boy Culture, and as Commander Kelby during the fourth season of Star Trek Enterprise.

He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts in 2003 and has appeared in several TV shows and films. In 2005, he was cast in the role of Commander Kelby, the newly promoted Chief engineer of the starship Enterprise in the TV series Star Trek Enterprise. In 2006 he had his first starring role as "X" in the LGBT film Boy Culture opposite Patrick Bauchau, Darryl Stephens, and Jonathan Trent.

While traveling cross country, couple Betty (Laura Ramsey) and an unidentified man, referred to as "Driver," (Luke Evans) encounter a gang of robbers. The group, led by dedicated criminal Hoag (Lee Tergesen), his daughter Amber (Lindsey Shaw), girlfriend Tamara (America Olivo), Amber's boyfriend Denny (Beau Knapp), and the psychopathic Flynn (Derek Magyar). Suspecting the couple to be wealthy and wanting to redeem himself for a robbery he botched, Flynn has them kidnapped and interrogated about accessing their money by Ethan (Brodus Clay) in a gas station. However, Betty commits suicide by cutting her throat on a knife Ethan had against her neck, which leads to the Driver breaking out of his handcuffs and killing Ethan.

Demi (Harris), is a veteran Soviet Navy captain finishing up a career that failed to live up to the legacy of his legendary father. He is given an assignment by Markov (Henriksen) to lead a top secret mission and given the command of his old ship. Due to mistakes he made during his service, involving the deaths of many of his past crew in a fire, this will be his last assignment and his only opportunity to command any ship at all.
