Nationality USA

Douglas Buck is an American film director.

Buck grew up in Long Island, later moving to New York City, where he began making films while working as an airport electrical engineer. Buck started by making short films, including Cutting Moments (1997), Home (1998), and Prologue (2003), all three of which were collected together in the Family Portraits anthology. Rue Morgue magazine selected Cutting Moments as one of its "100 Alternative Horror Films". In 2004 he began making a new version of Brian De Palma's 1973 film Sisters starring Lou Doillon, Stephen Rea and Chloë Sevigny, which was released in 2007, and described by Variety as "a worthy partner to his predecessor's famously violent slasher thriller". His latest film is The Broken Imago, an eco-horror film influenced by the 1976 Spanish film Quién puede matar a un niño.

Buck also co-wrote the 1999 film Terror Firmer.

Une épouse, délaissée par son mari, se mutile. Un père de famille, aliéné par une existence conformiste, décime sa famille à l’heure du petit-déjeuner. In the center of a monotonous-like subdivision, Sarah and Patrick have been living with their emotions kept isolated between themselves and their son. Patrick seems to be cold and harsh by ignoring Sarah's existence, and the affection Patrick once had for her has all but disappeared. It comes to the point that his sexual urges are manifested in his actions toward his son, Joey. Sarah is left in bewilderment when she hears the discussion of her husband and son at nighttime; she even asks herself, "What have I done?" When Sarah has run out of options for trying to bring back the spark in their marriage, she tries to do the unthinkable. In the end, Sarah ends up cutting her lips off to please her husband, which apparently does the trick; in the final scene, the two have tearful sex while Patrick cuts off Sarah's breast and his own penis.

This is the story of a New York low-budget film crew, led by their insane and egostical blind film director, Larry Benjamin, who is trying to create a work of art. In addition to the typical trials and travails of a Troma set, the crew is preyed upon by a sexually conflicted, bomb-toting serial killer. Among the large poorly paid film crew, the movie centers mostly on production assistant Jennifer, who struggles to do her job while deciding between the two men in her life; the straight-laced boom operator Casey, and the rebellious special effects operator Jerry. The love triangle intensifies as the dead bodies mount with increasingly brutality. At the climax, the entire film crew bands together (both physically and sexually) against the mortal threat in their midst.

In Lost Soul Gregory looks at the filming of The Island of Dr. Moreau, specifically the period during which director Richard Stanley spent on the project. Stanley was brought on to the project early but was fired only a few days after principal photography began and was replaced by John Frankenheimer. The documentary looks into Stanley's vision for the film, as he had spent years working on the movie's script and had intended for Bruce Willis to star as Edward, a role that was later given to Val Kilmer- a move that Stanley viewed as a mistake. Lost Soul features interviews with several people involved with the movie's production and focuses on various aspects of the film, including numerous changes to the script and reports that Kilmer was difficult to deal with on set.
