Douglass Dumbrille (October 13, 1889 – April 2, 1974) was a Canadian actor and one of the Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood.
Il débute au cinéma en 1913 puis, à l'exception d'un second film muet en 1924, n'y reviendra qu'en 1931 (après l'avènement du parlant) et tournera alors régulièrement jusqu'en 1964. Mentionnons sa participation à La Course de Broadway Bill en 1934 et à son remake musical en 1950, Jour de chance, tous deux réalisés par Frank Capra (avec lequel il tourne également L'Extravagant Mr. Deeds en 1936). En outre, il joue en 1938 dans Les Flibustiers (The Buccaneer) de Cecil B. DeMille — qu'il retrouvera en 1956 pour Les Dix Commandements — et dans son remake (titre original éponyme), réalisé par Anthony Quinn en 1958.

Au théâtre, Douglass Dumbrille se produit à Broadway (New York) de 1924 à 1932, dans deux opérettes, des pièces et une comédie musicale (Les Trois Mousquetaires, en 1928, adaptation du roman éponyme d'Alexandre Dumas — il participera aussi à une adaptation cinématographique dudit roman en 1939, Les Trois Louf'quetaires —).Il débute au cinéma en 1913 puis, à l'exception d'un second film muet en 1924, n'y reviendra qu'en 1931 (après l'avènement du parlant) et tournera alors régulièrement jusqu'en 1964. Wealthy restauranteur Harvey Howard (Bing Crosby), a self-made man, widower and owner of "Harvey Howard Smokehouses", decides to go back to college at the age of 51 and earn a bachelor's degree. He faces opposition from his grown snobbish children, as well as a generation gap between himself and his much-younger fellow students. The first day in school he finds that just convincing older students, faculty and the admin personnel is a humorous task. He enrolls and receives freshman rooming, and is up front about his determination to be "just another freshman". Being assigned a quad rooming arrangement, this sets the standard for the upcoming years. Dealing with the student press, the dorm adviser and making that first toast with sauerkraut juice to seal their bond to complete their four years together.

The Bascom Ranch, owned by Texas Rose Bascom, is targeted by an outlaw gang with the intent to steal cattle off the ranch. Outlaw Freno Frost runs the rustlig gang. One of the gang members is Jim Bascom, Texas Rose Bascom's wayward brother. When she discovers that her brother is running with the outlaws, she seeks help from the law. Sheriff Brown is unable or unwilling to help, so Texas Rose asks her boyfriend, U.S. Marshall Johnny Carpenter, to come to her aid. Johnny Carpenter shows up in town, in disguise, and impersonates the gunslinger Rod Tatum in order to infiltrate the outlaw gang. Texas Rose Bascom performs her fancy trick roping act for the townfolk, but ruffians interupt the event. Confusion follows when the real Rod Tatum and the impersonator meet on the street.
