Durant toute son enfance, Tamako Tomita (Yui Aragaki) a reçu de strictes leçons de ping-pong par sa mère. À l'époque, elle était reconnue comme une prodige du tennis de table. Après la mort de sa mère, elle a cependant retrouvé une vie ordinaire. Aujourd'hui, à 28 ans, elle travaille dans une entreprise et son petit-ami Akihiko Ejima (Kōji Seto) est membre du club de ping-pong de l'entreprise, mais il la quitte pour une nouvelle employée et membre du club Airi Ogasawara (Mei Nagano). Un jeune interne en médecine nommé Keisuke Soma (Eita) est appelé à travailler dans un village isolé dans la campagne. En premier lieu celui ci se conduit de manière à montrer que cette assignation est au dessous de ses capacités. Il fait alors la rencontre du médecin rattaché au village, surnommé Dr Ino (Tsurube Shokutei), qui est aimé de tous et qui travaille sans relâche tout en connaissant les maladies et les histoires de famille des villageois. The film's storyline has some major differences from that of the manga, most notably Dororo being a young woman, as envisioned in the video game, assuming the identity of a man. In spite of others seeing through her brash and often violent exterior, Dororo rarely concedes to her true emotions and refuses to be a "proper" woman. Hyakkimaru is also younger than his namesake in the manga, and less bitter about his circumstances, as well.

Summer Time Machine Blues is based around a group of friends in a science-fiction club who spend their days fooling around at the clubhouse. The boys play a game of baseball as their friend Yui Ito takes pictures of them nearby. After the game, the boys return to the clubhouse and head off to the bathhouse leaving the girls, Yui and Haruka to develop their pictures. While they bathe, Niimi gets angry because he thinks someone stole his Vidal Sassoon shampoo. On their way back, Takuma decides to sneak off to buy tickets at the theater for a sci-fi B movie. He hopes that he can ask Haruka out. Haruka says that she does not want to go out with him since he apparently has a girlfriend, but Takuma has no idea what she is talking about. But when he returns to the clubhouse, his friends act very strangely as to where he has been. They make him explain what happened, but through a series of chain events, Daigo accidentally spills Coke all over the air-conditioner remote control after being hit in the face. Everyone rushes to try to clean the remote off, but it's too late. The remote is broken and they cannot turn on the air-conditioner. This immediately becomes a problem as the day becomes hotter.
