Florent Emilio Siri (born 2 March 1965 in Saint-Avold, Moselle) is a French video game and film director and screenwriter born in Lorraine.

He studied cinema at the Sorbonne University and ESRA in Paris.

He began his feature film career with the 1998 social film Une minute de silence (One minute of silence), and continued in 2002 with the action film Nid de guêpes (The Nest), and then went on to serve as director of two critically acclaimed and highly successful Splinter Cell games at French-based video game developer Ubisoft, titled Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Following the underground success of his first feature film, Siri's directorial style caught the eye of actor Bruce Willis, who asked Siri to direct his big-budget 2005 action thriller Hostage. While not a big commercial success, the film earned considerable critical praise of Siri's slick direction, calling it "an art house version of the Die Hard films."

In 2007, he released a film called L'Ennemi intime (Intimate Enemies) treating on the personal aspect and psychological effects on individual personalities of the Algerian War. It was the first movie depicting the use of napalm by the French Army during the 1954-1962 conflict.

He wrote with Julien Rappeneau and made a film biopic titled My Way (Cloclo) about the French pop singer, songwriter and dancer Claude François portrayed by Jérémie Renier. It will be released in France in March 2012.

Florent Siri is also a noted music video director, particularly in his home country of France. He has worked with such bands as IAM, Expression Direkt, Alliance Ethnik, and Wu-Tang Clan, among others.

Biography

The film is set in 1959 during the Algerian War. Lieutenant Terrien (Benoît Magimel), an inexperienced and naïve junior French Army officer, has volunteered for active service, rather than a safe staff post in Algiers. He is posted to Kabylie, a remote and mountainous region of Algeria, as a replacement for Lieutenant Constantin (Hicham Hlimi) who was killed during a ‘friendly fire’ incident commanding a counter-insurgency ambush operation – i.e. he was accidentally killed by his own side during a confused fire-fight. The war in Algeria is much more complicated than Lieutenant Terrien anticipated as he takes over command of his new platoon at the outpost "Mazel". Within hours of taking over his new command Terrien is ordered to lead a ‘locate and destroy’ mission into the zone interdite (the 'Forbidden Zone') to find a World War II French Army veteran named Slimane, now a local commander of Algerian rebels trying to win the independence of their homeland. Slimane is never seen in person during the film.

In 1927, silent film star George Valentin is posing for pictures outside the premiere of his latest hit film when a young woman, Peppy Miller, accidentally bumps into him. Valentin reacts with humor to the accident and shows off with Peppy for the cameras. The next day, Peppy finds herself on the front page of Variety with the headline "Who's That Girl?" Later, Peppy auditions as a dancer and is spotted by Valentin, who insists that she have a part in Kinograph Studios' next production, despite objections from the studio boss, Al Zimmer. While performing a scene in which they dance together, Valentin and Peppy show great chemistry, despite her being merely an extra. With a little guidance from Valentin (he draws a beauty spot on her, which will eventually be her trademark, after finding her in his dressing room), Peppy slowly rises through the industry, earning more prominent starring roles.
