His insurance had lapsed by two days due to someone's error in not paying the latest premium – Rex admitting that it may have been his error - which in turn ruined his business.

During their encounter, Jongman strikes Thorens, who accidentally falls into an SS dagger and dies. Jongman leaves, unaware of Thorens’ death, and thinks Thorens has only passed out from the blow.
