Jean Rabier est un directeur de la photographie français, né le 24 avril 1927 à Villers-Bretonneux, et mort le 15 février 2016 à Port-de-Bouc.
Biography
Dessinateur industriel à l'époque de la Libération, il trouve un emploi au Laboratoire de téléfono-vision du Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (CNAM). Il participe ensuite au travail de prise de vues sur des courts métrages documentaires réalisés en Afrique par Edmond Séchan et Jacques Dupont. Il est deuxième assistant opérateur lors du tournage de Paysans noirs, long métrage de Georges Régnier. Assistant de Henri Decaë, il devient particulièrement actif — comme cadreur, puis comme directeur de la photographie — avec les cinéastes de la Nouvelle Vague, collaborant notamment à de nombreux films de Claude Chabrol.Il meurt le 15 février 2016 à l'âge de 88 ans.

Under the German military administration in occupied France during World War II. Paul Duchêne, un notable bordelais, doit rejoindre son fils Thomas pour affaires à Genève. En route, il s'aperçoit qu'il a oublié quelque chose. Il fait donc demi-tour et surprend sa bru Catherine en situation compromettante avec Didier, collaborateur et ami de Thomas. Aveuglé par la colère, il fonce alors pour rejoindre son fils, mais sa voiture s'encastre dans un 36 tonnes. Il se retrouve avec les deux jambes cassées. L'inspecteur Meunier enquête sur l'accident de Paul. Paul feint une perte de la voix devant tout le monde et même devant son médecin et ami. S'ensuit une longue guerre psychologique entre Paul et Catherine, où cette dernière, après l'avoir supplié de lui pardonner, essaye d'éliminer son beau-père.

Labbé, a hatter in a French provincial town, leads the life of a respectable citizen but is in fact a serial murderer. The only person to suspect this is his neighbour Kachoudas, an Armenian tailor. After the hatter kills his own wife, he then kills six of her friends to stop them visiting her and prepares to murder a seventh when the intended victim dies naturally. As a substitute, he murders the maid. At the same time, Kachoudas is dying and Labbé confesses his crime to him. Then, after getting drunk he visits his favourite prostitute Berthe and kills her too, being found there in the morning by the police.

Set in Brittany from 1908-1918, two peasants marry, have a son, and live in traditional Breton ways which is three generations under one roof, a division of labor between the sexes, elders' stories at night, politics and religion during their little free time. These are difficult times for them - la Chienne du Monde drives some to commit suicide; Ankou (death) is always a possibility. Pierre is born into this provincial family, his lyric childhood interrupted by the outbreak of war and his father's conscription. He learns his catechism and, as a child of a Reds, also reveres school. His grandfather and father often put him on their shoulders, giving him a ride on the horse of pride.

While leaving her husband, whom she has grown to despise, Alice (Sylvia Kristel) drives into the pristine countryside but must stop at an old house after her windshield cracks mysteriously. An old man and his butler welcome her at the mansion as if she were expected. The old man insists on her staying overnight. They even offer to have her car repaired in the morning. She is woken up in the middle of the night by a booming noise. The next day the car is there with a new windshield but she is alone in the deserted house. After a good breakfast laid out for her she jumps into the car again but she cannot find the gateway to the country house from whence she came. A tree trunk seems to be in the way. Reluctantly she returns to the old house. She then tries to walk the way with her suitcase and she meets a young man who tells her to accept the fact that there is no way out. Is she in limbo? She has to spend a second night in the mansion. The old man is there again and provides some explanations. The following day is a bright morning full of birdsong. Once more breakfast is ready for her in the lonely house. She takes the car again and here is the path and the gate to the highway. Is she really out? A few more strange characters come her way. Her windshield cracks again.
