Biography
Jennifer Kent est née à Brisbane. Toute petite déjà elle écrivait des histoires. A son adolescence elle choisit d'être actrice parce qu'elle ne pensait pas qu'une femme pouvait réaliser des films. Elle est diplômée en 1991 de l'Institut National d'Arts dramatiques. Elle commence sa carrière en tant qu'actrice, en particulier pour la télévision. Elle réalise son premier court métrage en 2005, et rencontre le succès avec son premier long métrage en 2014, récompensé dans plusieurs festivals, et meilleur premier film au New York Film Critics Circle en 2014.Elle est la seule femme réalisatrice sélectionnée au Festival de Venise 2018, où elle présente en compétition son deuxième long métage, The Nightingale, et où elle a été surprise de l'accueil qui lui a été réservé.

Set after the events of the first film, Babe (now voiced by Elizabeth Daily) and his master, farmer Arthur Hoggett (James Cromwell), are given a welcome home parade after Babe's success as a "sheepdog". One day, Babe inadvertently causes an accident to befall Arthur, who ends up in the hospital. Esme is unsuccessful tending the farm on her own. A few days later, two men from the bank tell her she and Arthur have not paid their rent on time, and at the end of the month, Esme and Arthur will soon be evicted from their farm. Among the many letters from their fans, Esme locates one saying that if she enters Babe in a sheepdog herding contest, held at a fair far away, she will win a large amount of money. She decides to enter Babe instead, and they leave the farm together.

The film is about a young girl named Katherine and her older friend Hester who live on an isolated farm run by Hester and her father Francis. Katherine works as a maid and wants to leave because there's too much work. Hester, however, becomes attracted to Katherine and holds her there, promising to give her less work in the future. When Francis dies, Hester decides to sell the farm for cash. They move to small cottage on the edge of the farm and plan to go to Europe. But a tragic accident and the theft of their money change their plans.
