Jeremy Coon is the executive producer and editor of the 2004 film Napoleon Dynamite, a cult hit made on a $400,000 budget that has earned more than $44 million since its release.
Coon attended film school at Brigham Young University and graduated in 1997 from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas.
He was friends at Brigham Young with fellow film student Jared Hess, where he was told of Hess' nascent screenplay for Dynamite and agreed to raise the money to produce the film. On the opening day of the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, Coon sold the film to Fox Searchlight Pictures for $3.2 million.
After a 22-day shoot in Preston, Idaho, Coon edited the film during a nine-day cram session using Apple Final Cut Pro software for the first time. "We spent about a year assembling our crew -- 95 percent were friends from the BYU post department," he told the Apple publication Pro. "People would come by to check on me and I didn’t even know what time of day it was."
Rhys Southan, a filmmaker who attended high school with Coon, operated a Beat Jeremy Coon weblog that documented his efforts to become more famous than his classmate before their 10th high school reunion in 2007.

Young sci-fi/fantasy enthusiast Gavin Gore (Jeremy Sumpter) and his ragtag group of nerd friends, girlfriend Sophie Suchowski (Addie Land), swordsman Hobie Plumber (Hubbel Palmer), and young Maynard Keyes (Rob Pinkston) stumble upon some "large tracks" and a "big ole sasquatch dumplin'" whilst walking some trails in the nearby woods. Napoleon Dynamite is a socially awkward 16-year-old boy from Preston, Idaho, who lives with his older brother, Kip, and their grandmother. Kip, 32, is unemployed and boasts of spending hours in Internet chat rooms with "babes" and aspiring to be a cage fighter; their grandmother leads a secret life involving mysterious boyfriends and quad-biking in the desert. Napoleon daydreams his way through school, doodling ligers and fantasy creatures, and reluctantly deals with the various bullies who torment him, particularly the obnoxious sports jock, Don. Napoleon likes to make up stories about himself whilst having a sullen and aloof attitude.

When police raid a house in a city north of New York, they discover a profoundly disturbing record of one man's ugly crimes. Investigators find over 800 videotapes shot by the killer which present a visual record of his murders in all their horrifying details. Both state and federal law enforcement teams sift through the gruesome images, looking for clues of his identity, the identity of his victims, and where he could have gone. Repeated viewings of the materials reveal little beyond the terrible facts of the crimes, and as the authorities comb through the madman's images, they find the tapes have had a disquieting effect on them.
