His 2013 film We Are What We Are was screened at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.He has signed on to direct the film adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale's cult novel Cold in July in which Michael C. Hall will star.

Jim Mickle est né à Pottstown en Pennsylvanie en 1979. Très jeune, il s'intéresse au cinéma et rêve de devenir réalisateur après avoir vu le film Evil Dead 3 : l'Armée des Ténèbres. À 18 ans, il intègre l’Université de New York département Cinéma où il obtiendra son diplôme en 2002. Lors de ses études, il rencontre Nick Damici. Les deux jeunes hommes partagent une réelle amitié et font le projet commun de réaliser un film d'horreur. Mais, par manque de financement, Jim Mickle et Nick Damici ne pourront réaliser ce projet.Usually with

Philadelphie 1988, Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook), jeune agent de police, est appelé sur le site de l’accident d’un bus public. La victime, chauffeuse du bus, présente la particularité d’avoir répandu son cerveau liquéfié, ainsi que la marque de trois étranges perforations dans la nuque. La poursuite d’une tueuse en série est menée et l’agent Lockhart parvient à tuer l’assassin localisé. Philadelphie 1997, la tueuse refait surface et tue à nouveau. L’inspecteur Lockhart est le seul à penser qu’elle n’est pas une imitatrice mais, contre toute logique, que la tueuse est vraiment réapparue. La traque devient alors une obsession.

Ann Dane, startled by the sound of a door window breaking, wakes her husband, Richard; he accidentally shoots the intruder, Freddy Russell, a wanted felon. Richard is shaken by the experience but attempts to move on with his life. Richard visits the cemetery on the day of Freddy's burial where Freddy's father, Ben—a paroled convict—accosts Richard in his car, making a veiled reference to Richard's son, Jordan. Alarmed, Richard picks up Jordan from school and arranges for Ann to meet them at the police station.
