Joan Chandler (born Joan Cheeseman; August 24, 1923 – May 11, 1979) was an American actress who notably starred in Rope (1948) with James Stewart and Humoresque (1946) with Joan Crawford.
She was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, and died at the age of 55 of cancer in New York City. A founding member of The Actors Studio, Chandler appeared in several feature films, five Broadway plays, and about 12 television programs, such as Studio One and Starlight Theatre. She was married twice, first to David McKay, then to Dr. Charles C. Hogan.

Pete Dumond, Chief Make-up Artist for 25 years at American International Studios, is fired after the studio is purchased by NBN Associates. The new management from the East, Jeffrey Clayton and John Nixon, plan to make musicals and comedies -- instead of the horror pictures for which Pete has created his remarkable monster make-ups and made the studio famous. In retaliaton, Pete vows to use the very monsters these men have rejected to destroy them. In New York City, a performance by noted violinist Paul Boray (John Garfield) is cancelled. At his apartment, Boray is at rock bottom emotionally. His manager Frederic Bauer (Richard Gaines) is angry with him for misunderstanding what a performing career would be like, and for thinking that music is no longer part of his life. To the more sympathetic Sid Jeffers (Oscar Levant), Boray says he has always wanted to do the right thing, but has always been "on the outside, looking in," and cannot "get back to that happy kid" he once was.
