Joanne Whalley (born 25 August 1962) is an English actress who started with adolescent roles in mid-1970s and, over the following decades, amassed numerous credits, primarily on television, but also in nearly 40 theatrical and television films, including the title role in CBS' Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, broadcast in November 2000. A leading role in six-episode 1985 eco-thriller Edge of Darkness earned her a British Academy Television Award for Best Actress nomination. She shared with the cast of 44 Inch Chest the Best Ensemble Performance Award at the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards 2010 and was nominated for Monte-Carlo Television Festival's Golden Nymph Award as Best Actress in 2011's The Borgias. After her marriage to actor Val Kilmer, she was credited as Joanne Whalley-Kilmer for some years.
Whalley took a break from filming to bring up her two children with Kilmer: daughter Mercedes (born 29 October 1991, in Santa Fe, New Mexico), and son Jack (born on 6 June 1995).
Shortly after the birth of their son, the pair separated. Whalley filed for divorce on 21 July 1995, citing irreconcilable differences. (Whalley and Kilmer play a bickering couple in Francis Ford Coppola's 2011 film Twixt.

The film tells the true story of the bisexual serial-killing con man and jewel thief Archibald Hall (Malcolm McDowell), who worked as a butler under the name of Roy Fontaine and robbed and murdered numerous employers throughout England and Scotland. On September 11, 2001, as information seeps out about the 9/11 attacks on America, the FAA begins directing all remaining aircraft in the air to nearby airports, completely clearing the skies. A total of 39 transatlantic flights at or near their "point of no return" (AKA point of safe return) are diverted to the nearest airport in Canada, Gander, Newfoundland. The story opens in Los Angeles with Dillon (Val Kilmer) who receives a phone call from Ray Burns (Mick Rossi) who has just been shot and desperately needs help. Dillon is a cleaner for a gangster named Eddie (Gabriel Byrne) and has been sent to assist Ray should he require it. After a colorful opening title sequence which follows Dillon's drive to the house, he finds Ray almost bleeding to death on a sofa. Removing all of the evidence, Dillon leaves carrying Ray to his car but not before he torches the house, destroying any evidence of Ray's presence. As Dillon and Ray drive away, Dillon struggles to keep Ray conscious and relates to him a story of a humorous encounter with a Mexican auto mechanic, which coins one of the catchphrases of the film: "I'm not gonna taco".

Gavin Ransom (Noah Wyle) is a successful real estate developer who has made a tidy fortune putting up gated communities filled with expensive suburban homes all over California. Ransom intends to put up another such development in the as-yet-untouched hillsides of Northern California's Marin County, and, just as he's expected, a number of folks living nearby are objecting to the project, including his sister Olive (Illeana Douglas), an environmental activist who has sided with longtime resident Eileen Boatwright (Cloris Leachman) and progressive lawyer Sybil (Jane Lynch) against the development.
