Joseph Edward Victor Fairfield Daveran Singleton (1 March 1879 – 24 October 1946) was an Australian actor of the silent era. He appeared in 74 films between 1913 and 1925. He was born in Melbourne.

Cathleen Gillis (May McAvoy) falls in love with Jack Herrington (Jack Mulhall). Martin Gillis (George Fawcett), Cathleen's loving father, is stern, very religious, and runs an ice cream shop. Cathleen is an obedient daughter and conservative in her views as well. Jack however, has a routine that includes wild parties hosted by his parents, Gladys and John (Myrtle Stedman and Alec B. Francis), who think it is better to be their son's friend by their providing bootleg whiskey and a place to have all-night parties. Jack's lifestyle places him at odds with Cathleen's, but he promises her his will change his ways. He backslides several times, but in the end is reformed by Cathleen's love, and they elope. After the elopement, Gladys and John get a stern lecture on temperance and sobriety from Martin and reform their ways as well.

Based upon a summary in a film publication, Joan Grainger (Hampton) is about to be "sent up" to prison after being falsely accused of stealing when she is kidnapped by Bennett Barton (McDonald), mastermind of a band of crooks of which Simpson (Singleton) is a member. Joan accepts Bennett's assistance when he sends her to Europe and later joins her. They live in luxury when she meets John Warren (Woodward), a wealthy American. Joan receives her first jar of suspicion when Bennett introduces her to John as being Bennett's daughter. Bennett later tells her the plan is for her to marry John so that they will have access to the money. The girl rebels but Bennett threatens to send her back to prison or, still worse, expose her to John, with whom she has now fallen in love. The entire party return to the United States where Bennett forces Joan to accept John's proposal of marriage. In the meantime some members of Bennett's gang have double-crossed him and tell Joan of the original theft frame-up. A signed confession is secured from the girl that did the framing. In the effort to secure the confession, Bennett is killed by Simpson, who had been after the "goods" on Bennett. John is willing to have Joan despite all of this and they are happy.

In 1757, in the midst of the French and Indian War, three French divisions and their Huron Indian allies are advancing on Fort William Henry, a British stronghold south of Lake George in the colony of New York. Dan Malloy est un hors-la-loi qui n'arrive pas à rentrer dans le droit chemin, malgré son amour pour une jeune femme qu'il vient de rencontrer juste après sa dernière attaque de train. Le shérif, lui-même amoureux de la belle, met au point un piège dans lequel se retrouve pris Dan. Condamné à dix ans de prison, Dan s'ennuie et utilise ses dons en dessin pour tracer un portrait du Christ sur le mur de sa cellule. Le lendemain, un meurtrier qui est conduit à la potence passe devant le dessin et reçoit miraculeusement une vision du Christ. Dan, en voyant ce miracle, se sent un instrument dans les mains de Dieu. Il commence à lire la Bible. Des artistes en visite pour voir ce portrait admirent la qualité de son travail. Une demande de pardon arrive finalement sur le bureau du gouverneur et peu après l'ancien bandit est libre de sortir. Alors qu'il veut se venger du shérif qui l'a fait emprisonner, une tempête éclate et un éclair frappe le shérif. Dan retrouve la femme qui l'aime, enfin digne de cet amour.

Anne Tyson vit seule, elle est surprise un jour de voir arriver un homme qui prétend être John, son frère en prison depuis quinze ans. Il pousse Anne à fuir avec lui et elle accepte. Ne disposant que d'un cheval pour deux, John vole le cheval de Deuce Duncan, un cow-boy du ranch UR. En fait John a rejoint un groupe de voleurs de bétail, dirigé par Steve Clement. Deuce, pour trouver qui sont les voleurs, graisse le bétail. Alors qu'il rend visite à Anne après l'avoir sauvée des hommes du saloon où elle a trouvé du travail, Deuce découvre de la graisse sur les vêtements de John. Mais à cause du plaidoyer d'Anne, Deuce le laisse partir. Un peu plus tard, les voleurs de bétail sont arrêtés par le shérif, et là encore Duncan fait libérer John. Toutefois John avoue à Anne qu'il n'est pas son frère, mais qu'il a pris sa place lors de son évasion. Deuce arrive juste à temps pour sauver Anne.

As described in a film magazine review, Jeff Hillington (Fairbanks), son of railroad magnate Collis J. Hillington (Bytell), tires of the East and longs for the wild and woolly West. He has his apartment and office fixed up in his understanding of the accepted Western style, which he has gleaned from dime novels. A delegation from Bitter Creek comes to New York City seeking financial backing for the construction of a spur line, and go to Collis to explain their proposition. Collis sends Jeff to investigate. The citizens of Bitter Creek, realizing that a favorable report from Jeff is necessary, decide to live up to Jeff's idea of a Western town. They set up a program with a wild reception for Jeff, a barroom dance, and a train holdup. Steve Shelby (De Grasse), a grafting Indian agent, knowing that he is about to be caught by the government, decides to do "one more trick" and enters into the plan to rob the train, turning it into a real scheme. Events turn earnest and Shelby kidnaps Nell Larabee (Percy), with whom Jeff has fallen in love. The entire crowd has been trapped in the dance hall, which is surrounded by Indians, and Jeff's revolver loaded with blanks. When the situation is finally explained to Jeff, by superhuman efforts (and typical Fairbanks surprises) he rounds up the Indians, rescues the girl, completely foils the scheme of Steve, and becomes the hero of the hour, getting to marry Nell.
