Judith Kaufamann (September 20, 1962, in Stuttgart, Germany) is a German cinematographer.

Biography

Judith Kaufmann was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1962, but after moving with the her family grew up in Berlin. After graduating from the National College of Optics and Photographer in Berlin, she apprenticed as a photographer.

Kaufmann worked in film as a camera assistant under Konrad Kotowski, Thomas Mauch, Gernot Roll, and Raoul Coutard. Since 1982 Kaufmann focused on film, and in 1991 became chief cinematographer.

The translator Fariba Tabrizi (29, played by Jasmin Tabatabai) is living under the threat of the death penalty in her own country Iran after being revealed, by the vice squad, to be homosexual. With some support from a relative, Fariba is able to flee from her home country to Germany. When she is in the refugee detention centre at Frankfurt Airport her application for asylum is turned down. She lives hour by hour with the thought in mind that she may be deported. Her desperate prospects are dramatically improved by the suicide of a fellow-inmate also from Iran she assumes his identity and, as Siamak Mustafai, and using his temporary permit of sojourn, is re-located to the provinces of Swabia.

Au coeur de l'été 1968, il souffle un vent de liberté sur Osnabrück, dans le Nord de l'Allemagne. Wolfgang, 14 ans, poussé par cet esprit de révolte, répond par l'insolence à l'éducation stricte prodiguée par sa mère et son beau-père. Ceux-ci décident de le placer dans un internat religieux pour jeunes garçons difficiles. Wolfgang découvre ainsi la vie de caserne sous couvert d'éducation religieuse, faite de portes fermées à clé, de barreaux aux fenêtres, de châtiments corporels et de travaux dans une tourbière. Les durs conflits entre les pensionnaires s'ajoutent aux brimades des frères. Traude Krueger (Bleibtreu) is working as a piano teacher in a women's prison. While selecting new students, she meets Jenny Von Loeben (Herzsprung). When she tells her she can't take any lessons because her hands are too rough and she is uncooperative, Jenny becomes enraged and almost kills the prison guard, Mütze (Pippig), also one of Krueger's students. Then she starts playing the piano. Krueger listens from the hallway and, impressed by her talent, later offers Jenny lessons, but requires absolute obedience, including eating a sheet of paper. She tells Jenny never to play 'that kind of negro-music' again.
