LeGault was born May 2, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Mary Jean (née Kovachevich) and Ernest Legault. His father was from Moose Creek in Ontario, Canada. LeGault's father, Ernest, was French-Canadian, while his mother, Mary, was born in Illinois, the daughter of immigrants from the former Yugoslavia and Austria-Hungary. The family was poor. He lived in an orphanage for a time between his dad's death when Lance was 4 and when his mother remarried. He started working at 11, and was fired from the railroad at 13 when they discovered he was not 18 as he'd said. He grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois and graduated from Chillicothe Township High School in 1955, later earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from The Municipal University of Wichita, Kansas. Maggie is the only cow left on the Dixon Ranch after Alameda Slim (a cattle rustler capable of stealing 500 in a single night) stole all the rest of Mr. Dixon's cattle. Dixon sells Maggie to Pearl, a kind and elderly woman who runs a small farm called Patch of Heaven. The local Sheriff arrives to tell Pearl that her bank is cracking down on debtors. Pearl has three days to pay the bank $750, or her farm will be sold to the highest bidder. Hearing this, Maggie convinces the other cows on the farm (Grace, a happy-go-lucky character, and Mrs. Caloway, who has had leadership gone to her head) to go to town to attempt winning prize money at a fair. While the cows are in town, a bounty hunter named Rico (who Buck, the Sheriff's horse, idolizes) drops a criminal off and collects the reward. Stating he needs a replacement horse to go after Alameda Slim while his own horse rests, he takes Buck. When Maggie find out that the reward for capturing Slim is of exactly $750, she convinces the other cows to try to capture him to save Patch of Heaven.

The evil emperor Shao Kahn, along with his generals, Motaro, Sheeva, Rain, and Ermac, opens a portal from Outworld to Earthrealm and has reclaimed his queen Sindel, who is Kitana's long-dead mother. Earthrealm is therefore in danger of being absorbed into Outworld within six days, a fate which Liu Kang and the others must fight to prevent. Kahn fights and quickly kills Johnny Cage during the confrontation by snapping his neck, and the remaining Earthrealm warriors must regroup and think of an idea to defeat Shao Kahn. Dude, a 1950s greaser, engages in a high speed chase with the local cops, Sarge and his unnamed partner. After Dude causes their car to crash in a game of chicken, he joins his girlfriend Donna at a club. Donna does not enjoy the loud rock music preferred by Dude, and she is annoyed that he has made her wait. After they dance, Dude's friend Nixer joins them, much to Donna's annoyance. As they cruise around town and try to decide what to do, they run into Teddy, a rival greaser, and his friends. After exchanging insults, the two groups engage in a drag race. The story is about five people who run a public monster truck show led by Yank Justice, driver of Bigfoot.
