Six years after Petals on the Wind, Cathy and Chris are happily married and live in California with Cathy's sons, Jory and Bart. Bart feels lonely and outshone by his brother and parents. One day, a woman dressed in all black moves into the mansion next door and invites Bart and Jory over for tea and cookies, and explains that she is rich but has no family except for her butler, John Amos. She takes a picture of them for keepsake, and asks them to visit her more. Jory declines but Bart agrees after she promises to give him anything he likes. Bart is curious why he has no other relatives and knows that Chris is his stepfather, but Jory says that their maternal grandmother is in a mental hospital and Chris' relatives are dead. Corrine lavishes gifts and treats on Bart, including a pet python, and tells him she is his grandmother, Corrine. John Amos gives Bart a journal belonged to his great-grandfather, Malcolm, and makes him promise to never reveal it to his family. Bart reads how Malcolm referred to beautiful women as sinful and degrading, which envelopes his mind.

The film begins with a woman (Emily Perkins) who runs to a nearby shop wanting to use the phone. She enters a phone booth, but is taken by an unknown creature. April (Brittany Allen) and her boyfriend Kyle (Freddie Stroma) are planning to go to her parents cabin for a romantic weekend alone, however she finds out that Kyle has invited his annoying friend Seth (Jesse Moss), Seth's girlfriend Lex (Anja Savcic), and another friend named Melanie (Melanie Papalia) along. Along the way, Seth sets off fireworks in the car and they are pulled over by Sheriff Murphy (Gil Bellows) who gives them a warning before letting them go. They finally make it to the cabin and begin drinking and smoking marijuana. Later on, Kyle proposes to April, which April rejects, angering Kyle. Suddenly they see something crash in the woods and upon investigating find that it's a UFO. After returning to the cabin they hear noises upstairs, and after getting April's father's gun find nothing but an open door. After finding an alien on the patio they shoot it to death. They then try and drive to town but find that the road is blocked.

The planet Krypton faces imminent destruction due to its unstable core; the result of depleting Krypton's natural resources. The film opens with aerial footage of Vancouver and BC Place stadium with a radio DJ announcing Metallica's one-night-only concert. It then cuts to a heavy-metal fan driving into the empty parking lot and climbing on to the car's hood, whooping and laughing, but has difficulty due to his excessive weight. The film's main protagonist, Trip (Dane DeHaan) skates past the fan but wipes out. Trip is a roadie for Metallica. Skating into the underground parking and venturing into the dressing room halls, encounters each of the band members. Giving a brown paper bag to his supervisor, Trip is told to "stick around." Standing in the main stadium arena, he then walks at a typical pace with the audience filing in to the arena in a time lapse to Metallica's traditional opener, Ecstasy of Gold.

Jerry Hartfield, the producer of Grave Encounters, a famous ghost investigation television series, explains that Grave Encounters was cancelled in 2003 after the fifth episode, when the cast and crew, along with the footage for episode six, mysteriously went missing. Meteorologist Leah Kaplan (Daryl Hannah) and her team of National Storm Center (NSC) scientists set out from Jacksonville, Florida on a routine tracking mission to gather data on Hurricane Josephine, forming up over the Atlantic Ocean.
