Marcel Bozzuffi (28 October 1928 – 2 February 1988) was a French film actor, perhaps best remembered for his role as a brutal hitman in the Oscar-winning American film The French Connection. In 1963, he married French actress Françoise Fabian.

Biography

Enfance, formation et débuts
Après une enfance passée en Bretagne, Marcel Bozzuffi monte à Paris et s'inscrit au Cours Simon.


Carrière
À l'écran, Marcel Bozzuffi fait partie des « seconds rôles », comme Raymond Bussières, Robert Dalban, Michel Peyrelon et tant d'autres, qui ont marqué si profondément le cinéma français.

Bien que souvent cantonné à des rôles soit de policier soit de gangster auxquels il donnait, tant par ses traits que par son jeu d'acteur, des tons sombres et inquiétants, il a su sortir dans les années 1980 de ce registre stéréotypé qui a marqué sa carrière en jouant des rôles de composition tout à l'opposé de son étiquette de « méchant » comme le personnage d'un homosexuel dans Identification d'une femme d’Antonioni. Il a donné la réplique aux plus grands, notamment Jean Gabin (dans Gas-oil ou Du rififi à Paname).

Il a également mis sa voix grave et si particulière aux services du doublage de films, doublant entre autres Paul Newman et Charles Bronson. Il fut aussi la voix de Lucky Luke dans Daisy Town. Il mesurait 1,70 mètres. Pour les cinéphiles, il reste surtout connu pour son interprétation de Nicoli, le porte-flingue d'Alain Charnier poursuivi par Gene Hackman dans une scène restée mythique du cultissime French Connection de William Friedkin. Marcel Bozzuffi, ayant des racines italiennes, parlait très bien l'italien, avec un léger accent français, ce qui lui permet de participer à des films italiens, surtout dans les années 1960 et 1970.



Acteur, Marcel Bozzuffi a également écrit et réalisé un film (L'Américain en 1969), trois téléfilms et un recueil de nouvelles (Forfana - Récits, publié à titre posthume en 1990).


Vie privée et fin de vie
En 1963, Marcel Bozzuffi épouse l'actrice Françoise Fabian avec qui il vivra jusqu’à sa mort. Il meurt des suites d'un cancer au cerveau le 2 février 1988. Il est inhumé au cimetière du Montparnasse (7e division) à Paris, non loin de Jean Poiret et de Philippe Noiret.

Luca Di Angelo (Fabio Testi) is a smuggler, one member of an organized team trafficking cigarettes and booze up and down the coast off Naples, Italy. After a run-in with the police in which the smugglers manage to get away by faking a boat explosion resulting in the police motorboats responding to the false emergency allowing the smugglers to get away, Luca and his brother Mickey suspect Scherino (Ferdinand Murolo), the head of a rival gang of smugglers, of passing on their actives. Lucia and Mickey take their accusations to their boss Perlante (Saverio Marconi) a sleazy playboy withy numerous Mafia connections, who agrees to look into it. After a nighttime fire at Mickey's racing stables kills a valued racehorse, he and Luca drive over to inspect the damage. But on the way, they are stopped at a fake police roadblock where the assassins dressed as policemen trick Mickey into getting out of the car and machine-gun him to death over and over again (a homage to Sonny Corelone's death scene in The Godfather), while Luca barely escapes injury by hiding on the floor of the car.
