Mario Mattoli (30 November 1898 - 26 February 1980) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 86 films between 1934 and 1966.
His 1939 film Imputato, alzatevi! was shown as part of a retrospective on Italian comedy at the 67th Venice International Film Festival.
Les critiques ont beaucoup dénigré Mattoli et, malgré ses succès publics, il n'a pas reçu de récompense majeure. Lui-même se qualifiait de réalisateur sans formation et sans talent, mais aujourd'hui, certains de ses films, notamment ceux interprétés par Toto (Totò al giro d'Italia, Misère et Noblesse), sont considérés comme des classiques du cinéma italien.

Biography
En 32 ans de carrière, Mario Mattoli a réalisé plus de 80 longs métrages, et en a souvent aussi écrit les scénarios, allant du drame passionnel au film mythologique et à la science-fiction. Mais c'est avec la comédie qu'il a le mieux réussi, mettant notamment en lumière le talent de Totò.Les critiques ont beaucoup dénigré Mattoli et, malgré ses succès publics, il n'a pas reçu de récompense majeure. Lui-même se qualifiait de réalisateur sans formation et sans talent, mais aujourd'hui, certains de ses films, notamment ceux interprétés par Toto (Totò al giro d'Italia, Misère et Noblesse), sont considérés comme des classiques du cinéma italien.
