Nine years after the events of the show's third season, former teenage sleuth Veronica Mars has left the fictional town of Neptune, California and moved to New York City, where she is in a stable relationship with Stosh "Piz" Piznarski and has a job offer from the prestigious law firm Truman-Mann and Associates. Three couples—Emily and Kevin, Hugh and Beth, Amir and Laurie—attend a dinner party at the house of their friends Mike and Lee. On the way to the party, Em's phone loses reception and the screen spontaneously shatters. She blames this on a passing comet which she had heard about on the news. She tells the other dinner guests how a previous comet a century earlier had caused people to experience strange phenomena. Her idea is ridiculed until the other guests discover that none of their phones have power and that Hugh's phone has also shattered. Hugh wants to contact his brother, a physicist who had warned him about possible odd effects from the comet. Just then, the house loses power. The group lights candles and opens a package of blue glow sticks to provide light. Going outside they see that the whole neighborhood has lost power except for a house a few blocks away. Hugh and Amir decide to walk to that house to see if they have a working telephone. While they are gone, Mike manages to turn on his house's generator, restoring power. Hugh and Amir return, with Hugh bleeding slightly from the forehead and Amir carrying a box which they had found at the other house. Hugh explains that he became startled when he looked inside the other house and saw a dinner table set exactly like theirs. Opening the box they discover a ping pong paddle and photos of all of them, with random numbers written on the back. Amir notes that the photo of him was taken that night, inside the house, and Em realizes that the numbers are written in her handwriting.

An opening prologue set years before the events of the first film tells that Lord Shen, the scion of a peacock clan that rules Gongmen City in ancient China, seeks to harness fireworks as a weapon. John "Hannibal" Smith (Liam Neeson) is held captive in Mexico by two Federal Police officers working for renegade General Javier Tuco (Yul Vazquez). Hannibal escapes and sets out to rescue Templeton "Faceman" Peck (Bradley Cooper), who is held captive at Tuco's ranch. Hannibal saves Face after enlisting fellow Ranger B.A. Baracus (Quinton Jackson), driving to the rescue in BA's modified GMC Vandura van. Pursued by Tuco, they stop at a nearby Army Hospital to recruit the services of eccentric pilot Howling Mad Murdock (Sharlto Copley). They flee in a medical helicopter, chased by Tuco, in a dogfight that leaves BA with a fear of flying. The battle ends when they lure Tuco's helicopter into American airspace, where it is shot down by a USAF F-22 Raptor for trespassing.

Four junior college students (James "Jimbo", Cookie, Jasmine, and Kristy) are driving along a deserted road in Florida on their way to a cheerleading competition. As Jimbo is driving, Cookie gives him a blow job, while Jasmine secretly watches from the backseat. Distracted, Jimbo swerves and hits a utility pole, damaging the car. During World War II, U.S. Army intelligence officer First Lieutenant Thomas Hart (Farrell) is captured by German forces. While interrogating Hart, the Germans coerce him to divulge intelligence by taking away his boots, causing his feet to become frostbitten and badly injured, and leaving him, naked, in a very cold cell. He is then transferred by train to Stalag VI-A prisoner of war camp at Hemer, Germany. While en route, a P-51 Mustang attacks (the letters POW were painted on the top of the train, but got covered by thick snow). To save themselves, the POWs leave the train and spell P-O-W with their bodies and prevent further strafing.
