Michael O'Shea (March 17, 1906 – December 4, 1973) was an American character actor whose career spanned the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. O'Shea was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Unlike his five brothers who became policemen, he dropped out of school at 12 and began his acting career in vaudeville by touring with boxing idol Jack Johnson's show.

Biography
D'une famille irlandaise, ses cinq frères sont tous devenus policiers, ils ont encouragé leur frère à défier la tradition et à devenir acteur. Né en 1906, il a arrêté l'école à l'âge de 12 ans. Il s'essaye alors à tous les métiers. Pendant les années de prohibition, il devient un comédien et un maître de cérémonie dans des bars clandestins. Il a monté sa propre troupe de danse, « Michael O'Shea and His Stationary Gypsies». Il a rencontré l'actrice Virginia Mayo sur le tournage de La Vie aventureuse de Jack London (Jack London) en 1943 et l'a épousée quatre ans après. Dans les années 1960, il est parvenu à accomplir partiellement le rêve de son père en devenant un employé de policier clandestin pour la CIA, il arrêtera sa carrière après ce rôle. When newspaper reporter Mike Reese (Duryea) loses his job at a big city paper he finds that no one else will hire him. Reese borrows money from a gangster and buys half the interest in a small-town newspaper, The Lakewood Gazette, in the town of Lakeville. The newspaper is owned by Catherine Harris (Storm), who immediately has differences with Reese on how the paper should operate. Reese, trying to use the paper as a step up, latches onto a murder of a woman who happens to be the daughter-in-law of a newspaper magnate. When a local black woman is suspected, Reese turns the story into a media circus and soon his reporting is back in the spotlight again. The film is notable for the pejorative use of the word "nigger", though this is clearly dubbed, not what was originally filmed.

Detective Ray Williams (Michael O'Shea) is recuperating from a broken rib as his wife Ann (Julie Bishop) tries to persuade him to get a desk job, especially with the new baby on the way. However, a call from the police inspector (Robert Shayne) informs him that homicidal criminal "Red" Kluger (who Williams apprehended) has busted out of Folsom Prison. As Williams is going to leave in his police car, he is kidnapped by Kluger (Charles McGraw) and his men. District attorney Barker MacDonald (Frank Conroy) is also kidnapped by his men. Lastly, nightclub singer Carol (Virginia Grey), who apparently ratted him out is kidnapped. She however claims it was Tony, one of Kluger's associates, who Red has arranged to come out of Mexico City to Palm Springs to give Red and his associates the $12,000 from a deposit box and give them an escape plane to leave the country out of. Kluger makes no secret of his plans to kill Williams and MacDonald once he's made a getaway. Carol claims to not have ratted him out constantly, but Kluger rejects her claims. Kluger also takes in another hostage, Joe Turner, driver of the truck escorting the gang. The gang is housed up at a shack, awaiting Tony. Joe tries to escape with a gun he had stolen from the truck earlier, but Kluger subdues him, takes the gun and kills him.
