Milhem Cortaz (born December 6, 1972) is a Brazilian actor of film, stage and television.
Cortaz' first role came on the 2000 film Mater Dei, written by Diogo Mainardi, where he portrayed a security guard. On 2002, he premiered on the television with a minor character on Rede Globo's unsuccessful telenovela Desejos de Mulher. On the following year, he started gaining some notoriety after starring on the critically acclaimed Hector Babenco film Carandiru, about the massacre on the prison of the same name.
On 2005, Cortaz starred on Rede Record's telenovela Essas Mulheres and acted on the controversial independent film A Concepção, in which he appears fully naked a considerable number of times. On the following year, he acted on Record's successful telenovela Cidadão Brasileiro and on the American-Brazilian film Journey to the End of the Night.
It was not until José Padilha's 2007 film Elite Squad, in which he portrays a corrupt police officer, that he gained notoriety of the major public. In 2009 he starred as Cazé on Record's Chamas da Vida and played the deceased father of current Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Fábio Barreto's Lula, o filho do Brasil.

Doca (Otávio Müller), Danillo (Gabriel Braga Nunes), Carlinhos (Marcello Melo Jr.), Branco (Milhem Cortaz) and Samuel (Caio Blat) are five policemen working undercover at the Complexo do Alemão, an area which gathers several slums and is considered one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. Their operation goes wrong after the government threatens to raid the place using military vehicles, which leads local drug lord Playboy (Cauã Reymond) to cut off all the slum's communications, leaving them unable to contact their boss, Samuel's father sheriff Valadares (Antonio Fagundes) and forcing them to hide at the basement of Doca's pizzeria, which serves as their base of operations. Their situation is worsened when Valadares' assistant Pixixo (Izak Dahora) is almost killed by Playboy's men and drops a briefcase containing details on all the policemen infiltrated in the slums.

The film begins in October 1945 in Garanhuns, a municipality in the countryside of Pernambuco, when Luiz Inácio da Silva, nicknamed Lula, is born as the seventh child of Dona Lindu and Aristides. After being released from the prison mental ward, Coffin Joe is greeted at the gate by his old and loyal servant Bruno (Rui Rezende), who takes him to a secluded basement below a favela in São Paulo. As well as Bruno, the hideout is populated by four fanatics who are obsessed with Coffin Joe's history and ideas, and have been waiting and preparing for his arrival in order that they may faithfully serve him.
