Mira Furlan (born September 7, 1955) is a Croatian actress and singer. She is best known for her roles as the Minbari Ambassador Delenn on all five seasons of the science fiction television series Babylon 5 (1993–98), and as Danielle Rousseau on Lost.

Biography

Furlan's husband is director Goran Gajić, who has directed her in an episode of Babylon 5 and several plays, including a production of Sophocles' Antigone.

In late 1991, she and her husband, who is an ethnic Serb, emigrated from the former Yugoslavia to escape the warfare which resulted in the breakup of the country, with the attendant political turmoil and ethnic tensions.
Furlan gave birth to the couple's first child in 1998.

Oft-married Gemma visits Sarajevo with her only child, Pietro. The two of them had escaped the city sixteen years ago, just days after his birth during the Bosnian War. Diego, her second husband and Pietro's father, remained behind and later died. As they travel with her wartime friend Gojco, she tries to repair her relationship with Pietro, asking her third husband (by phone) if she should tell Pietro that she did not give birth to him. Gemma is later stunned by the revelation that Pietro's real mother, Aska, is still alive and married to Gojco. Aska reveals that, contrary to Gemma's long held belief, Diego was not Pietro's father, as she had been a sex slave to a garrison of the Serb Volunteer Guard. Gemma must face loss, the cost of war and the redemptive power of love.

The story starts in a Bosnian woods in 1993, when a women gives birth to a baby boy, and jumps to 2007, to an orphanage in Sarajevo which is home to a thirteen-year old boy, Alen (Tony Grga). Former director Gago (Meto Jovanovski) told Alen that his mother is French, and his father is an Englishman who met as war reporters in Sarajevo and due to war and professional obligations have temporarily left him in the orphanage. Alen writes letters to his mother and gives them to educator Cica (Mira Furlan), which they should be sent to his mother in France. However, Cica all the letters of children placed in a drawer, because they, in fact, no one to send. In the orphanage comes a new director Mirza (Mirsad Tuka), a young and capable educator who truly wants to help children in their growing up. In addition to the orphanage is shop owned by Šento (Dragan Marinković). For him, the children from the orphanage steal expensive stuff. After a botched robbery jewelers, police perform investigation and Alen, fearing that it does not reveal that he was in a robbery, trying to get to their files, actually addresses of his mother, as he left the orphanage and went to her.

The movie starts at a family dinner where Saša (Ana Franić), a discontent Belgrade Law School student who is still living with her parents, informs them about her decision to follow her boyfriend Stefan (Branislav Tomašević) to Canada since he had already accepted a job offer to coach water polo there. The parents who thought the young couple were about to announce their intention to get married can hardly hide their shock and disappointment at the unexpected turn of events. Saša's father Miloš (Bogdan Diklić), a conservative judge, is particularly not happy with the fact that she's leaving her studies. Saša also tells them that she's moving in with Stefan right away, even before her visa application is processed. The young couple then leaves the dinner in a bit of a huff.

Based on a novel by Branko Ćopić and set during World War II, the film tells the story of a Serbian village in the mountains of Bosnia and its villagers who found themselves divided along two opposing ideological lines, represented by the Chetniks and the Partisans. Ce refuge ingénieux est à la fois un bunker construit profondément sous terre pour protéger ses occupants et un palace digne de ces hauts dignitaires habitués à un luxe ostentatoire. À leur arrivée, les uns après les autres, en fin de cavale malgré un trajet périlleux, les ex hauts dignitaires sont accueillis par Holm. Mais ils ne sont pas au bout de leurs surprises : étrangement le président tarde à arriver… Qu'est-il advenu de lui ? Va-t-il arriver ? Est-il mort ? Les a-t-il abandonnés ? Sans leur chef, leur guide, les occupants du Bunker Palace Hôtel sont dans le désarroi et la confusion.
