Karen et sa nièce Ashley sont témoins d'un braquage. une fusillade éclate et la fillette est prise en otage mais elle est relâchée par les braqueurs sur la route, elle sombre dans le coma. Karen va donc tout faire pour retrouver les braqueurs qui ont blessé sa nièce. Seule, sans l'aide de la justice, elle va les retrouver et les tuer à l'aide d'un revolver. Frank le lieutenant qui s'occupe de cette affaire va l'aider mais va la soupçonner peu de temps après. Étant jeune avec son frère elle fut allé a une soirée, Bobby Lean agressa Karen, son frère la défendu et se fut tirer dessus par celui-ci. L'affaire ne fut pas suivi par la justice.

Admiral McKee (Tom Skerritt) is retired, when following the events of 9/11 he receives a call from the White House informing him that his commander in chief requires him to serve his country once again. Shortly after this he is sworn into office as a senior member of the Office of Homeland Security under Tom Ridge. Once in office Admiral McKee faces the challenge of organising this new office so as to prevent further terrorist attacks against the United States. The film opens with Sebastian Valmont (Robin Dunne) conversing with his soon-to-be ex-principal and the principal's insistence on having Sebastian's permanent record relayed to his new school, thereby hampering his chance for a new start at Manchester prep. Following his arrival in New York, Sebastian discovers the wealth of his new family; meeting Kathryn Merteuil (Amy Adams) for the first time and bettering her with piano and vocabulary. This leads to a confrontation between Kathryn and Sebastian whereby she states that she has a comfortable lifestyle and that he "better not interfere".
