Oliver Ackland (born 9 November 1979) is an Australian actor.

Biography

In 2012, Ackland was seen in the comedy horror film, 100 Bloody Acres, directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Richard Gray’s feature Blinder and the ABC telemovie, The Mystery of a Hansom Cab.

Most recently, he appeared as ‘Toby Raven’ in the highly acclaimed mini-series realisation of Tim Winton’s Cloudstreet, directed by Matthew Saville, and as ‘Rhys’ in The Slap, adapted from the multi award winning novel by Christos Tsiolkas. Ackland’s other television credits include All Saints, Always Greener, Young Lions and Outriders. He also appeared in the telemovie Emerald Falls and co-starred in the miniseries Jessica, both directed by Peter Andrikidis.

Ackland starred in Ben Lucas’ Wasted on the Young, which premiered at the 2010 Sydney Film Festival and screened at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. His other feature film credits include Roger Scholes’ Cable and John Hillcoat’s highly acclaimed feature The Proposition.

Ackland has also appeared in numerous short films including Damian Walshe-Howling’s The Bloody Sweet Hit and Eve directed by Hannah Hilliard.

In 2009 he was awarded the inaugural Heath Ledger Scholarship by Australians in Film.

The Torquay Tigers are a successful team playing in the Bellarine Football league. Their coach Charlie "Chang" Hyde has guided the team into their first Grand Final in seven years. There is talk that the team's best three players, Dunn, Mortimer and Regan, may get drafted by one or more AFL clubs. On the eve of the match the coach drops star player Tom Dunn for poor attitude. The club is successful and wins the flag. Dunn feels left out of the celebrations and strikes up a friendship with Rose Walton. Reg and Lindsay Morgan own and operate a small blood and bone fertiliser business in country South Australia. While making local deliveries and the occasional roadkill pick up, Reg encounters the crash site of a van, the driver dead inside. Reg recovers the body from the crash and puts it in the back of his own truck. Making his way back to the brothers' plant, Reg is delayed again, this time by three tourists stuck on the side of the road: Sophie, a young woman; James, Sophie's boyfriend; and Wes, James' friend, with whom Sophie is having an affair. Reg takes an instant attraction to Sophie, and, against his better judgement, allows the three to ride with him.

Darren is a quiet, introverted teenager who attends a prestigious high school along with his popular and wealthy step-brother Zack. A girl named Xandrie has a crush on him, and decides to attend one of Zack's elaborate house parties to spend more time with him. At the party, Xandrie meets Zack and he notices her interest in Darren. Xandrie fails to meet up with Darren and is intercepted by Zack's friends Karenn and Simone, who offer her a spiked drink. Xandrie is taken to the basement, where she passes out and is left alone with Zack and his friends, Brook and Jonathan. She wakes up at a beach and goes home after discovering she was raped. The next morning, Darren discovers Xandrie's phone in the basement, and is unable to find her at school. He meets up with Ella, Xandrie's friend who was with her at the party, but got separated from her and doesn't know where she is.
