Pran Krishan Sikand (12 February 1920 – 12 July 2013), better known by his mononym, Pran, was a multiple Filmfare and BFJA award-winning Indian actor, known as a movie villain and character actor in Hindi cinema from the 1940s to the 1990s. He acted as a hero from 1940–47 and as a villain from 1942–1991 and played supporting and character roles from 1948–2007.
In a long and prolific career he appeared in over 350 films. He played the leading man in films like Khandaan (1942), Pilpili Saheb (1954) and Halaku (1956). His roles in the films like Madhumati (1958), Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai (1960), Upkar (1967), Shaheed (1965), Ram Aur Shyam(1967), Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool (1969), Johny Mera Naam (1970), Victoria No. 203 (1972), Be-Imaan (1972), Zanjeer (1973), Don (1978), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and Duniya (1984) are considered to be among his best performances.
Pran has received numerous awards and honours in his career. He won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded as the 'Villain of the Millennium' by Stardust in 2000. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013 for his contributions to the arts. In 2010, he was named on the list of CNN's Top 25 Asian actors of all time.
He died on 12 July 2013 at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.
He was treated at the Lilavati Hospital and died on 12 July 2013, at 8:30 p.m. He had been admitted to hospital a few times in the last few months for his deteriorating health, at some point he was battling pneumonia. Consequently, he could not attend the 60th National Film Awards in May 2013 where he was to be presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Instead, Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari presented the award at Pran's home in Mumbai. Pran's death was widely noted by statesmen and his fellow entertainers. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid his condolences on his death and called him "an icon". Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan tweeted his feelings about his death calling him a "magnificent pillar" of the film industry.

Sunil Shrivastava (Sunil Shetty), is the son of a freedom fighter (Pran), who fought against the British regime for Indian independence. With such intention Sunil comes to bombay from Allahabad to study law, so that he can fight for the justice of the people. Not being a coward, Sunil decides to take on the system, be it all-alone, and fight them on his own terms. A saviour called "Ek Hindustani" is born which is the name given by the people to Sunil. Suddenly there is revolution in the air. Every child around wants to become "Ek Hindustani" and wants to live without fear. Muskaan (Kajol) is an orphan girl living on a farm run by her overly-protective older brother, Vishal (Arbaaz Khan) and their 'Chachu' (Dharmendra). Muskaan's childhood friend, Ujaala (Anjala Zaveri), has been carrying a torch for the brooding Vishal since childhood, but he won't give her the time of day. Later on Muskaan decides she wants to go to university in Mumbai and has to persuade her brother to let her go. Once in the big city, Suraj (Salman Khan), an underachieving student, who does not get along with his stepmother and is estranged from his father, falls in love with Muskaan. After a few attempts at messing with Muskaan and trying to get her attention, Suraj finally succeeds and Muskaan falls in love with him. One day, when Vishal comes to visit Muskaan, he is mistakenly considered her boyfriend by Suraj and his group of friends. They consequently try to fight Vishal but instead get beat up. Vishal does not like Suraj because his terms and conditions of his future brother-in-law are very strenuous physically and he thinks Suraj is neither competent nor a man to be taken seriously. And he decides to bring Muskaan back to the farm sensing Suraj's bad influence on her studies. Suraj pursues her and starts working on the farm as a stable boy after a chance meeting with 'Chachu' in which he saves Chachu's life. Vishal decides to give Suraj another chance and puts him to the test; however, he is rejected. Vishal wants Muskaan to marry the brother of Thakur Vijay Singh (Nirmal Pandey), not knowing that Thakur Vijay Singh is doing this to merely extract vengeance against the Thakur family for a previous humiliation his own family received. So Suraj must now prevent this from happening and he must also be able to win Vishal's heart if he is really interested in marrying Muskaan.

Tuti Shah murders Kishan to defend his anti-social business and trap Kishan's friend D'souza (Pran) in his murder. D'Souza gets life imprisonment. D'Souza decides to bring the truth of the murder of Vijay Sinha's father to his knowledge by getting Tuti Shah arrested. At the same time Tuti Shah comes to know about deprived Michael and his sympathy and attachment towards the poor. He black mails Michael emotionally and gets his rival Bakhshi Jang Bahadur killed by Michael. During his attack a hotel dancer Maria (Madhoo) loses her eyesight by the flames of Michael's pistol. Michael himself feels responsible for this accident and without disclosing his identity starts helping and taking care of Maria. Both fall in love each other Now the motto of Michael's life is to get Maria's eyesight back. Tuti Shash again black mails Michael emotionally. He offers him money for the operation of Maria's eyes and asks to kill his another enemy Inspector Dharam Das in exchange. But in this deal Tuti Shah deceives Michael. On the other side Inpsector Vijay Sinha chasing Michael for both the murders and wants to arrest the mafia don Tuti Shah also. To defend a pick pocket Meena (Shilpa Shirodkar) from hoodlums Inspector Vijay Sinha himself falls in love with her. Inspector Vijay Sinha arrests Tuti Shah red-handed but fails to do anything against him as a lawman. He resigns from his service and decides to eliminate Tuti Shah. Now D'Souza, Michael and Vijay Sinha are at one side and Tuti Shah and his personal army on the other side.
