Ramanathan Sarathkumar (born 14 July 1954) is an Indian film actor, journalist, politician, the former president of the South Indian Film Artistes' Association and former body builder. Sarathkumar has acted in more than 130 Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada films. He can speak Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and English fluently.

In 1986, Sarathkumar started his acting career in the Telugu film Samajamlo Sthree. He first acted in negative roles, and later played minor roles before establishing himself as a lead actor in the subsequent years earning him the title Supreme Star in Tamil cinema. He has won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards South.

In 2007, he launched a new political party All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) in Tamil Nadu claiming to carry out the ideals of K. Kamaraj. He is the present Member of Legislative Assembly of Tenkasi constituency. He served as the president of the Nadigar Sangam from 2006 to 2015 for three consecutive terms.

Biography

R. Sarathkumar has been married twice. His first marriage was to Chaya in 1984 and the couple had two daughters, Varalaxmi and Pooja. The couple later divorced in 2000. Then he married actress Raadhika on 4 February 2001. They were friends when they worked together in Kargil, they also paired in two films : Namma Annachi and Suryavamsam. The couple has a son named Rahul born in 2004. He has also a stepdaughter named Rayanne Hardy born to his wife Raadhika with her ex-husband Richard Hardy in 1992.

Arvind who came to the city from a rural area, is a naive employee in a company. He cannot tolerate corruption, bribert, breaking rules, lavishness and the urban culture of youth in cities. He is caught by traffic police for a minor mistake through not of his own. Although he has all documents with him, he is asked a bribe by traffic policeman. When he refuses to pay the bribe, a complaint is booked against him and he is sentenced by the court, even though he complains about the bribe.

Lingesan (Vikram) is a bodybuilder from the suburbs of Chennai, whose main ambition is to become Mr. India. He wins the title of Mr. Tamil Nadu, which gives him entry to the Mr. India pageant. He is infatuated by Diya (Amy Jackson), a leading supermodel. Diya is soon blacklisted and all her advertisement film contracts are cancelled by John (Upen Patel), her co-star in all her advertisements, after she constantly rejected his advances. To save her career, Diya decides to replace John with Lingesan, whom she had earlier met at one of her shoots, as her co-star for her next advertisement. Lingesan agrees, sacrificing his Mr. India ambitions in the process.

A young boy named Rana, who hails from the kingdom of Kottaipattinam, leaves his family, despite his brother Sena pleading him not to do so. The boy soon meets with an accident while rowing in the river and is eventually discovered by some fishermen from the neighbouring kingdom of Kalingapuri, a rival of Kottaipattinam. Rana (Rajinikanth) grows up there and trains in weaponry, and grows up to be a fearless warrior. Due to his fighting skills and bravery, he soon wins the confidence of the king of Kalingapuri, Raja Mahendran, who promotes him as Commander-in-Chief of the Kalingapuri army. Rana's first job as Commander-in-Chief is to free the soldiers of his hometown Kottaipattinam, who are being treated as slaves, enlist them in the army and train them. He then seeks the permission of Raja Mahendran to attack Kottaipattinam, to which the latter agrees. However, during the war, Rana encounters his childhood friend, crown prince Sengodagan, the son of Rishikodagan, king of Kottaipattinam. Immediately signalling an end to the war, he, along with the soldiers disown Kalingapuri and return to Kottaipattinam, much to the disgust of Raja Mahendran and his son, crown prince Veera Mahendran, who swear revenge on Rana for tricking them and betraying Kalingapuri.

On September 16, superstar Gautham Krishna (Prakash Raj) gets ready for the release of his new film. On the same day, Traffic Constable Satyamoorthy (Cheran) joins back on duty, after having been suspended from service for taking bribes. The day is special for Dr. Robin (Prasanna) who is celebrating his first wedding anniversary. Karthik Vishwanathan (Sachin), an aspiring television journalist, starts his first job with an interview with Gautham Krishna the very same day. On the same day, at a crowded traffic junction in Chennai, Karthik, who was set to interview Gautham Krishna, and Ajmal (Mitun), traveling in a bike are hit by a speeding car at the signal, and Karthik is rushed to Global Hospital. Also at the junction, in another car, was the surgeon Dr. Robin. Karthik goes into coma and is declared brain dead although he is kept alive using ventilator. Meanwhile, Gautham's ailing daughter's (Gabriella Charlton)heart condition becomes worse and she urgently needs a heart transplant. At first Karthik's parents do not agree to take their son off the ventilator and donate their son's heart but Ajmal and Karthik's girlfriend (Parvathi Menon) persuade them into it. Now that the heart is available, the problem was transporting it from Chennai to Vellore. No chartered flights or helicopters were available and so the heart had to be taken by road. Someone had to drive the 150 kilometers in under two hours during the rush traffic.

Madhava Menon (Nedumudi Venu) is a well respected retired police officer who has two daughters, Meera (Meghana Raj) and Meena (Lakshmi Sharma). Narasimhan. IPS (Sarath Kumar), an efficient police officer in Tamil Nadu, married Meera and Nandagopan (Jagadish), an officer in Kerala Police who does homework more efficiently than his official work married Meena. They all live very happily. The state legislative election is announced in the state. There happens a twist in Madhava Menon's life. The leader of a political party digs out an old case (a police custody death of a teenage boy) in order to trap another leader in the opposition party. The case begins to draw big attention and the press comes to Madhava Menon's house to ask him about the case because he was in charge of the police station when the boy died. He tells the media that he killed the boy. It was a surprise to his daughters and sons-in-law. Soon he is arrested and put into the jail. Narasimhan and Nandagopan joins hand and search for the truth because they are sure that their father-in-law did not do such a thing. Also, they doubt that he agreed to have committed the crime to save some one else. Through a series of investigations, Narasimhan and Nandagopan finds the original culprit and proves the innocence of Madhava Menon.
